Clubs stolen . . .

New
I have a set of irons from a custom club fitter - snake eyes Python heads and Aldila graphite shafts.

I couldn't be happier!

Picked up the G10s, which are similar to the Rapture, but don't have the titanium face. The new raputre, is the "rapture 2" which IMO is ugly and pricey - but alas, I will miss the green rapture +1/2" shaft length

I did splurge on the Wedge and found this club - from scratch golf, in a 58*

http://scratchgolf.com

My question for those who are good around the green: The g10 includes a 50* approach wedge - should I get the 53* scratch wedge as well? Does a 3* gap and a 5* make sense? I like the old 54* for the 70-80 yard distance - now I assume I would back off the 50*? Is my set up ok with 50* to 58*gap? I will admit, by game from 125 in needs help, so I am wondering what everyone thinks on this one.

PS Insurance will pick up the tab, sans the deductable

Ron

I read your post and wondered. You mention missing the green Rapture +1/2". Does the green refer to green dot? One would infer that the new G10's are not +1/2. Did you get fitted for the new Pings? If no, then, in my opinion, you blew it.

The scratch wedge introduces a club that is going to feel very different from your G10 head design and shaft. As to loft gaps something like 50 -56 -60
or 50 - 54 - 58. The real issue is yardage gaps not loft gaps. An advantage of the Scratch wedge would be that you can bend them.

If you were hitting your old 54 only 70 - 80 yards then you may find the Scratch wedge too difficult for your skill level. But what the hell, it's fun to experiment. I have a variety of clubs gathering dust.

That's because Canucks have maple syrup and not guns :)

I had a guy tell me today that too much soy can shrink your boys. (and grow man-boobs) Due to estrogen.

I am off it!

(have been a while now but...)

(ahhhhh run away...)

Once I heard the news from a Reputable Source that's it man...done!

I still don't know what "Ash Trays" are BTW. Hollow point?

Google yields the information to Confirm.

No, you drink soy to stay away from the estrogen given to cows to produce more milk.

As far as wedges go, you really need to figure out the yardage gaps you need to hit a full shot with. Softconsult hit it on the head.

I only carry a 56* and a 60*. I have been using my 56* from about 105 yds and in. I can hit my 60* about 90-100 with a full swing, but I'm too inconsistent with solid contact for some reason. I am able to control contact, distance, direction and spin better on shorter swings with the 56*. The 60* is used for shorter pitches and the occasional chip.

Ping eye 2 + .... brand new from Ping. There is something very very special about these irons.

Birdie - I think Jay is right. I have heard and read the same thing. The prices are modern-set-equivalent ..... but the product, in this instance, in my mind, is far superior.

Jon

There seems something about the Ping Eye 2s. I have never heard of pros still playing any other equally old iron.

(I have heard anyway that there are some pros still playing them...and no doubt lots of ams as well)

Brian wrote a bunch of stuff a while back on em...

I don't own a set but of course have hit them...and my uncle owns a set. They grow on me everytime I play them.

My eyes know they are butt ugly but at the same time I find myself liking them for some reason.

Man.....I don't know but all I can say is I wouldn't be surprised. I will have to look into all this now to satisfy my curiosity. I understand there is a business side to some of this stuff but where does it end.

Not really the place to get into this in depth I suppose but...

...Excess food additives really really annoy me. (and other mass excess)

What about excess posting.....:D

Aw nuts. :)

Well here I go again at 4 in the morning puttmad. ;)

Late night snack gone awry. :D

Maybe the question is: blades or game improvement iron? - is there really a big difference?

I haven't tons of experience with modern blades (straight up muscleback) but the ones I did hit I guess I found surprisingly easy to play.

I don't think it will kill you but best to guage by how the mishits go of course.

Take the looks into account too! I don't like playing irons that turn me off everytime I look down at em. It can affect your performance too some. Like playing a putter that doesn't line up well or w/e.

I don't even notice my new irons behind the ball. (this is a good thing)

Ping Eye2 , Ping Eye2 , Ping Eye2 . . .

What is the deal with these clubs? Are they actually better than what Ping produces today?

I see the Ping Eye2 Copper on Ebay in my size . . .

I guess I'll be one of the few. I had a set of Ping Eye2's about 10 years ago played with them for about 6 months and sold them. Didn't like how they felt--may have been shaft related--and didn't like how they looked. The miss hits seemed to loose a bunch of distance. I now have had a set of mp-32's for a while that do real well even on miss hits, which is a little unusual for "muscle back irons".

Better I don't know. At the least they are very playable and just seem quite popular and well-liked.

Brian said something about how every club hangs the same (toe straight down) and something about the original shafts being well-designed.

I like modern Pings as well. (play s-58s) And Callaway's X-22 Tours (I think 22s are their newest) look nice to me.

(I like cast irons)
