Yesterday I posted for the very first time on Yoda's site and it seemingly will be also the last - it got erased immediately. My post was however a very short, very simple and very polite question addressed to ThinkingPlus. Seemingly having posted on Brian’s site is all it takes to ban someone from their forum.
Since ThinkingPlus is the resident physic’s expert on Lynn’s site it is definitely worthwhile to look at the ideas being posted. In two succeeding posts by ThinkingPlus in the thread ‘Conservation of Angular Momentum’ (The Golfing Machine – Advanced) one can find:
Physics 101 answer
-------
Basically, since this is an elastic collision, momentum is not strictly conserved, but it is close enough for our purposes. You can also approximate Mclub with the mass of the clubhead alone since the impact interaction occurs over such a short time.
Newton's 1st Law
-----
Lag pressure maintained through impact will result in a collision that is more inelastic (less lossy) than if one had a clubhead moving with a constant velocity (my assertion, et al.).
In the first post it is clear that the clubhead is considered a free mass. (this is against TGM philosophy.) In the second post it is however just the opposite. An obvious and very clear contradiction in two adjacent posts.
Also in the first post it is stated that in an elastic collision momentum is not conserved. This is a gross error. Momentum is ALWAYS conserved, both in elastic and inelastic collisions.
Moreover in the second post it is stated that there is less loss in a more inelastic collision. This is a gross error. It is just the opposite. Kinetic energy is conserved in an elastic collision and is not in an inelastic collision.
For a golf forum where one is not shy to invoke science in support of their superiority over the rest of the golfing community it is somewhat strange that one is not even allowed to politely question their resident physic’s expert on the validity of their ideas.
Science is not the exclusive property of LynnBlakeGolf Form but is universal and normally open to questioning. Typical of the aseptic self congratulatory style of this particular forum where any discussion or controversy is not even allowed to take place.
