I was looking for a catchy title. :D I heard about this website from another golf forum where some of the members speak highly of Brian. I downloaded Confessions of a Flipper and have watched it 3-4 times. I'm trying to incorporate a late release and flat wrist in to my pitches as per the video and it's working. BTW, I'm a flipper. When I do it right it's great, but I'm now having issues on the course. I'm either digging a trench or blading it on 3/4 to full shots.

I just started to work this into my routine a week or so ago and I am wondering if this is normal? Pitching has NEVER been a good part of my game. I really like Stan Utley's short game book but without video's it's hard for me to understand, are there any Brian videos on pitching?

Maybe Brian will correct me here... but Confessions of a Former Flipper style pitches are perhaps more of a training aid rather than Brians recommendation for his pitching technique for your game play.

Learn to pitch like that on the range and stop your flip.... that will feed through to your whole game.

Brians short game style is more varied and sophisticated than the pitch he demos in confessions. It might have its use in a round of golf ...but i think it is more of a tool to stop flipping.

PS . If digging...is your body moving forward during swing ( upper body moving towards target?)?...this may bring the lowest point of your downswing arc well beyond the ball....massive divots....i have been there!

Thanks guys! I think it is probably pivot related. I'm going from more of a sweeping motion to now more of an attacking motion (hitting down on the ball.) My problem is probably related to hitting down on the ball without compensating the rest of my swing. I think overall it's just new to me and I've got to get used to it.

They called him Flipper, Flipper...

The video "is what it is"— a tribute to Ben Doyle, A way to learn not to flip, and some real "Manzella Moments" that are different and funny. It is not a Brian Manzella Video on the short game, or even the MANZELLA MATRIX GUIDE to understanding WHY folks flip, WHY folks flip even after they kniow they shouldn't, and what exactly the best way to learn not flip IS.

That one is in the works....code name "Son of a Former Flipper." ;)

Most all of the "name" teachers, are very reticent—at best—in talking about what the hands do in the swing, and how to acheive "trigger delay" and professional impact alignments. "Confessions of a Former Flipper" is EASILY the best video of its kind, but it can, and will be improved on.

As far as "Over-Leaning" the shaft—what you are describing—make sure you do the following three things, and then report back:

1. Keep you head behind the ball until the finish swivel.

2. Keep you tailbone ahead of your "base of the neck bone."

3. Unwind your torso, so your left shoulder is moving UP AND BACK during impact.

You'll be fine.

It's just with the wedges that I'm digging. I'm going off of what I remember but if I had to guess the 3rd thing (#3 above) is where it's going wrong for me. I hit a couple of GREAT wedge shots yesterday with more distance and height than I have in the past and even got one to come back 10" but for the majority I fit really fat. No problems with the irons, they were more solid and a lot more consistent.

Awhile back I ran into a problem in which I was lifting up in my backswing due to an overswing. Shortened my swing and the problem stopped. Perhaps the added wrist cock is triggering the raise up again. I'll work on fixing this throughout the week.

I'm currently downloading Never Slice Again and I probably go ahead and get the sand bunker video too as it seems to have some wedge info. Good site and nice video's.

Heres what I did:
Get a stick and make your swing. No need to flip a stick, so maintaining a flat left wrist is easy. And see where it hits the ground. Use trial and error till you find the root of your problem. Work through Brian's points... I was screwing up #2 at the time.
