First of all, congrats to Trevor Immelman. Played great golf all weekend and definitely deserved the win.

But I have to laugh at these commentators and Gary Player saying he strikes it like Hogan. For crying out loud, I don't believe the guy had finished higher than 40th in an event this year and missed the cut last week in Houston.

Nobody saw this coming, although apparently everyone knew he was the greatest ball striker of our time:)

Gary Player did 1200 situps and ate 4 salads before 8 oclock this morning(and he will tell you all about it too)

Player said that Immelman has the most similar swing to Hogan than anyone else he has seen since. He didn't say anything about ballstriking.

chdwck what are you looking for in criticizing a 70+ year old man who takes pride in his fitness? If more people acted like Player then obesity/diabetes might not be such an issue in this country.

I think Immelman has a very bright future. Obviously his ball striking is solid. He hit a lot of fairways and greens in some pretty serious wind on a very difficult course. His putting is solid and his demeanor is calm. I can see him winning several majors.

I hope he can mount a charge at Tiger for the next few years. Golf needs some guys to step up and challenge for number 1.

Now, I love Gary Player, and I can only dream of being that active and fit at 72.....but he is a bit over the top on many occasions. By the same token, he has walked the walk and talked the talk for a long time. He is a giant among men and he has earned the right to say any darn thing he wants to.

He might just be right this time.

oddly enough I saw several reporters golf insiders etc. saying " watch out for Immelman" leading up to the tourney. He has all the tools and if he hadn't had so many health issues we may have already seen this before now. I'd be willing to bet this won't be his only major. Top four or 5 in distance and right at the top in accuracy. Only thing he has ever struggled with is the putter occasionally and obviously a little nerves and the nerves will go away as he wins more and more.

I just heard an interview with Immelman. I'm stunned to find out he didn't know where he stood in the tourney on 16 tee. He didn't look at a leaderboard all day. Obviously worked out, but what if he was only 2 up on 16? Would he have strategized differently?

Ever see Kris Tschetter's (of the LPGA) swing?

Kris and her husband are members at my club and I see her at times on the practice tee. She had back surgery over the winter and has just started practicing again. Played her 1st round in about 4 to 5 months back in early March - played right in front of my group

Nice lady - very good swing - hits it pretty far, but I fear her competitive days are numbered what with the back and a young one at home.

You must have been on the edge of your seat watching Ochoa win by 11!

Ahaha.....tou che.

He probably had money riding on his Mexican girlfriend (mamacita) though.

...

For the record I thought The Masters was a little boring too.

I guess it wasn't tight enough.....not enough guys making birdies I think too though.

Good for Immelman though. Heck of a swing. Hope he keeps up the good play.

I think Gary is a little cooky too. Moreso than I.

We'll see about Immelman. I like the guy, I think it's just a bit early to be saying he swings it like one of the all-time greats. Let's see, here's a list of guys who have won majors recently.

Trevor Immelman
Angel Cabrera
Geoff Ogilvy
Ben Curtis
Todd Hamilton
Shaun Micheel
Rich Beem
Zach Johnson
Furyk

Just to name a few, I guess Furyk is the most likely to win more than one, although he may be getting past his prime. Immelman is as likely as any of them to win more than one.

I'd wondered what happened to her. I didn't have any luck finding video of her on the web. I recall seeing her on tv a few times years ago and thinking how much her swing looked like Hogan's; to me anyhow.

I think the difference is that Immelman went wire to wire. He didn't start to lose it until 16 on sunday. If he had looked at a scoreboard, he would have been able to avoid a double there too.

As an aside the english golfers he 'knocks around with' (i.e. Casey, Rose, Donald etc) all say he is the best pure ball-striker they have ever seen inc Tiger

Obviously if he can get his short game and putting to where it was this week his long game being one of the best around means he should be there and thereabouts if he can kick on

What do some of the people here, who think its absurd that Immelman's swing be so highly considered, think is sub-optimal about his swing?
