What do some of the people here, who think its absurd that Immelman's swing be so highly considered, think is sub-optimal about his swing?

i think its more like, now hes won a major, now everyone claims to know that he was a great ball-striker all along. all i really see is how he has VERY little hip-turn going back

Player said that Immelman has the most similar swing to Hogan than anyone else he has seen since. He didn't say anything about ballstriking.

chdwck what are you looking for in criticizing a 70+ year old man who takes pride in his fitness? If more people acted like Player then obesity/diabetes might not be such an issue in this country.

Just a joke buddy relax

IMO, Immelman probably has the most perfect double shift swing i have ever seen. I would say at times he can swing a bit too far down the line which will lead to his fair shares of heavy draws and/or hooks.

BUT

When he's swinging it well, i really feel it's the best i've ever seen. I've alwayson wondered why he never won more often before now. I'd have to look up the stats but maybe he isn't the best putter.

Guys, I'm not saying Immelman is bad, I just think it's a little "over the top" for player to be comparing him to Hogan. Not just Hogan, but Nicklaus, Snead, Palmer, Trevino, or any of the other greats.

Immelman is currently 40th in Greens in reg this year and was 66th last year. Solid, but let's not throw him in there with the all time greats yet.

Player has been an awesome ambassador for the game, but he does exaggerate. I also think his steroid comment was over the top.

I forgot Harrington also recently won a major, he might have a chance at becoming a multiple time major winner as well.

Player never said Immelmans ball striking was as good as Hogans...he said his swing looked most similar to Hogans. There is a massive difference between those statements, aesthetics and substance are not always related.

I'll say it again--his control of direction is great. His control of distance, is pretty good, but not up to snuff with someone like Tiger, who's control of direction is pretty good (can be very iffy with the driver) but whose distance control is amazing. I think that's where most of the praise about Trevor's ball-striking comes from. And yes, Player did not compare Immelman to Hogan on the basis of the ball-striking, but on the look of the swing.

Hogan had a much weaker grip.

Hogan's right arm crossed over much later in the follow through for his bread and butter shot.
