And a rubber ducky for free..

I noticed that the closer I keep my hands to my body it is better for my swing.

Cool.

But it ain't for everyone, and I'd say, not for most.

It turns out that my hand path in the take away has become the problem.

Ah....the whole baby and the bath-water thingy....

Tom Watson has an in hand path and a beautiful, full upright backswing.

Don't ruin a backswing to get one useful piece, my brother.

bend the right arm at the elbow joint to bring the club UP

A key that I never was told until recently...amazing how centered you can stay when you are bending the arm correctly.

I think Brian has an old video on this (though I have only heard of it), maybe something about right forearm takeaway?

What is the key to the Watson "inside hands but upright backswing"? Bending the right elbow at the right time?

That's what I have never been able to get. Surely the right elbow should bend at the right time on its own accord as opposed to flicking a mental switch halfway through the backswing and starting it bending yourself.

Sure, some swings could use a little more 'up', but would anyone ever recommend making a takeaway and consciously bending the right arm from there? There must be a better way to blend in the 'up' (if that makes sense) during the whole motion of the backswing.

Just try visualising the hand path making a big giant "C" to get it to the TSP.

Nice. Thanks Kevin. You can see that so clearly in Watson's swing above.

I know I have had a bit of an "L" shape in the past and see this a lot in other people - sharply inside and then lift everything up - instead of a gradual motion. The lagging clubhead takeaway feels like it is tracing out more of a "C" shape.

Thanks everyone been busy with the new baby and was away from the computer for a few days. The feedback makes a lot more sense to me now. Worked on the tips in between work, and Kevin's first tip was really beneficial to me and I am feeling more connected and a much better transition to the halfway back position. Thanks again for all of your feed back.....Eugene

Years back, in one of the golf mags, was the suggestion that the hands move back and up a narrow flume or water slide.

The shape of the flume drawing was a smile shape. Coming down, it ended just past the front foot about where the left arm and club achieve a straight line relationship.

Seems that it was a Tom Watson tip but can't really remember for sure!

This more of an arc shape vs a tight "C" served me well until I forgot about it.

It's time to bring it back into my range drills!
