A good friend of mine is going to be in Santa Barbara for a few days. You guys got any tips on decent courses for reasonable prices? Thanks for any help.

Sandpiper is worth checking out.

If you are willing to travel 30 to 35 miles north of Santa Barbara, LaPurisima is a great course to play. It is between Beullton and Lompoc.

Try Glen Annie.

Below is a great site for golf course reviews, information, playing conditions, aeration alerts, etc. for California, Southern Nevada, Arizona, Colorado, New Mexico, Oregon, Washington, and Texas.

Former UCSB Golf Teamer here:
Sandpiper, spendy but about Torrey Pines quality, not Pebble.
Glen Annie, boring and contrived.
SB Muni, worth playing more than Glen Annie
Rancho San Marcos, prettier than the shot quality is good. overall, worth playing.
For a KILLER golf EXPERIENCE, drive NORTH 45 minutes up into wine country and play BOTH Marshalia Ranch *former Vandenberg AFB, and La Purisima, beautiful and very good quality golf.
Marshalia is a classic and feels like Carmel and is waaayyy under-priced.

Best course you cant play Valley Club once home to Fred Couples and right past Oprah's house- but Sandpiper is the poor mans pebble beach.

If you venture a little further south, Ojai has two nice courses - Ojai Valley (pricey - go on golf now) and Soule Park (great value). I'm also a big fan of Olivas Links in Ventura and Rustic Canyon in Moorpark. +1 for La Purisma & Rancho San Marcos

Valley Club is one of golf's best kept secrets. EPIC. Played there every Monday for 5 years while on the golf team.
La Purisima will be the best overall value that is actually do-able.
