D plane only applies to direct COG strikes?

Just saw this interesting comment on twitter:

D plane is a simplistic model and an amazing one I wish I knew ten years ago.
But it does not account for gear effect. So to a trained user of trackman it can help identify of center strikes.
 
i think if we're talking center line ball and club, it would be amazing how little the best players do it! I went to Dr Scholls foot spray, it seems to skew the spin a little less.

I almost always use face tape too when I teach. It's astonishing how seldom average golfers hit the middle of the face.

While i know you know this, it's important for others to understand middle of the face does not equal center of COG. Keep that in mind for iron heads with very long hosels that will shift the COG more heelside.

The good thing is that many new iron heads are doing their best to get it more in the middle.
