David TOMS' BACKSWING AND TRANSITION

I tried the "Up the Wall/Down the Wall" technique yesterday at the range, and the results were very good. I've tried "Up the Wall" in the past, but never combined it with the "Down the Wall" sensation Brian described. For me, that was the key to making this work. When I forgot "DTW", I'd hit terrible shots - dead right or thin -due to my severe natural in-to-out move.

I hit a lot of (slight) dead pulls though - I'm going to try to weaken my grip some and see if these go away.

Thanks for the explanation.

I believe I used a cure for my swing similar to what Brian prescribed for David. I use to get way to flat on my backswing and you have two options at that point, either come over the top, or if you're athletic, like I'd assume Toms is, you drop way under plane and struggle with blocks and hooks. My problem was the latter, I'd drop even further under plane trying to hit the ball to 1:00. Once I started getting a little steeper on my backswing, I could then drop it on plane to start my downswing. Felt awkward as he$% the first few times I did it. You have to exaggerate pushing the club away from your chest to ensure the club is going up and not in.. worked for me though.

Brian : What did you make of Nobilo's swing? Denis Pugh thought it was the greatest and that he would win everything. He also said that ex West Ham soccer star Julian Dicks would make it on tour. He used to give him lessons.
