I am 43 years old.

Last year, I played about 20 rounds of golf.

I am currently fat and out of shape.

I carry my driver about 260.

I hit down of my driver.

I will continue to teach all NON LONG DRIVERS (LDA TOUR) golfers to hit down on the ball.

You still haven't commented on this:

"He was coming from below the plane and HITTING UP ON HIS DRIVER.

Not after I fixed him."

I have no doubt that your advice to Toms was invaluable and helped him with his swing and win the tournament. The article says that Toms downswing was coming too much from the inside and you analyzed this as coming from below the plane and hitting up with his driver.

It would seem to me that to change this major swing flaw would be a major swing overhaul for Toms. What did you have him do to incorporate your swing advice into his faulty swing mechanics?

Also the article mentions that you videotaped Toms on the driving range to point out his swing flaws. Do you still have that videotape to show us the before and after results of your swing instruction to Toms? I would really like to see that.

(.. fat and out of shape? That's what a happy married life will do to any fine athlete ;)))

It would seem to be a major overhaul, be to be honest it took me less than an hour.
I'm good ;).

Brian Manzella:
I used a "custom-built" ;)towel plane board, so that he would HAVE to NOT BE below plane with his swing (in this case a driver at first).

And most importantly, I told to hit down AND MASH his driver.

He did.

Brian Manzella:
I bet you would.

I realize Mandarin has received alot of grief and discension since he began posting, BUT you guys should really click on the "information" link in his post.

It shows by diagram what Brian has been describing with words.

Those are some awesome pictures - left shoulder going up as the clubhead continues to go down to lowpoint.

I'm going to try and make one of those pictures my new screen saver.

Hey, the only reason I keep needleing at Mandarin is that I have a bet going with some friends on who's who. My bet is on Mandarin being TGManMachine but not Horton. Was hoping he'd blab something to give the game away.

So come on trolls - inquiring minds want to know! It's very un-sportsmanlike to keep this to yourselfes.

As for the pictures - Yes they are pretty, but that all they are.

Wolfman, to supply you with another possible screen saver I have generated a slightly different downswing sequence.:) Notice that this time the ball is situated directly under the lead shoulder and that the clubshaft and lead arm are perfectly aligned vertically at impact. The hands have still a slightly rising trajectory due to the upward moving lead shoulder.

I have pretty much stayed out of this useless arguement but the above statement just didn't make any sense to me, so I stood up to try something. I got into impact fix postion. Next I moved my hands back of my left shoulder. If I raise my left shoulder the hands and clubhead go down. As I continue raising my left shoulder, the hands and clubhead continue moving down until they are in line with my left shoulder, then begin to rise. Seems pretty clear cut to me. If the ball is behind low point, the rising left shoulder means the right shoulder is going down, and the hands and clubhead are going down. I don't think I would want to routinely try to hit my driver with the ball forward of lowpoint. I can see how if the ball was right at lowpoint, the hands and clubhead would be moving near level and shaft flex could be a factor, however the force exerted would still be down and out.

Have you ever actually determined that your driver head is descending to impact with objective measurement like on a launch monitor, or are you only eyeballing yourself?

You know what they say. Feel is not real, and don't believe anything you hear and half of what you see.

I hear you but I can't see you.

Damn - I'm loosing the bet then.* I'll have to check if this clears all the bets.

Surely you jest when you ask who Horton is?

Vaako

* You wouldn't say this just because I'm betting against this, now would you? [:p]
