Extensor action

I have been experimenting with extensor action and I find that it is causing tension in my shoulders and in my wrists. Can somebody please explain how extensor action should work properly WITHOUT creating this tension?

Thank you in advance for your thoughts.

The left arm is the radius of the swing. Ideally, we don't want that radius to change during the swing. Thus, for some (if not most) golfers, you should try and keep the left arm fairly straight. Not hyperextended or anything like that.

If your left arm is has a lot of bend or you are collapsing at the top of your swing, then the tension you are describing might be very desirable-that's a swing change and it's supposed to be uncomfortable.

But if your arms and hands are bothering you, it's certainly possible that you are overdoing it.

I like to feel like my right arm takes up the slack (pulls the left arm taught). I feel some pressure in my left hand below my left thumb.

I think you are overdoing it. I remember Brian saying the amount of extensor action you want being like the feel of pushing your arm when pulling on a sweater.

Although Extensor action appears a lot on the mechanical check list. But some people have got it already, like what Hue said " feel of pushing your arm when pulling on a sweater"
Experiment with and without and see the different.

The Watch Drill

Put your right thumb on top of your watch strap at address, and apply a slight pushing pressure. Continue back and down in this mannerer. If you don't apply enough pressure, then your thumb will come off. If you apply too much, then it hurts!
