The trouble that I see with some players is that they try to watch the flight of the ball before they hit it.
Exactly. Then that head goes up and pulls the shoulders right out of the shot... next thing you know your spinning out and hitting a high slice that came out of the heel of the club.
I see the ball in my setup and then I forget about it and only focus on where I want the ball to go... I visualize the shot and see it landing on the green or the fairway. I don't actually try to watch the ball the entire time but when I'm playing my best golf it kind of seems like everything slows down and after the shot is hit I can still recall what the club looked like when I hit the ball even if I wasn't saying to myself "keep your eye on the ball."
I've played with a legally blind man before, he wasn't blind when he started playing golf but now he can hit a shot and know pretty much instantly just from the feel where it's going and about how far it'll go. Of course he needs someone to help him find it but he can tell ya just how far right or left to start looking.
