My first PGA tournament was the Kemper Open at Congressional in 1982 or 1983. It was a great course to watch golf on. I recall one threesome I followed, Payne Stewart, Bobby Clampett and Hal Sutton. Clampett hit the ball better than the other two. All played persimmon drivers, Stewart hooked everything, Sutton hit a real low shot off the tee. Clampett could do what he wanted with the ball. The most impressive was Tom Purtzer, he had an effortless swing and killed it. He hit nine in two, which in those days was a feat. I also followed a young guy with a great swing named Mac O'Grady. He had no gallery, which was amazing as he hit the ball great. I also recall Bobby Wadkins rudely telling Larry Mize, then a young player to pay attention when he was teeing off, as he forgot who had the honors.
