Today I played my first round of golf. I had fun, hit it all over the map, but still managed to scrape together a 103. 53 on the front 50 on the back. The course I played was 6400 yards and pretty "wide open" a friend of mine said. Man, I have alot of work to do. Thought Id just tell you guys how it went..Thanks for all of your help so far. Im gonna play tommorow as well:)

103 isn't bad for your first round of golf. You have definitely found a good home here at Brian's house. Hopefully, you will learn the correct fundamentals for your personal swing, and the proper strategy for your game.

How did you hit the ball? Where did your misses go? What kind of problems did you have?

i think if you scored a real 103 (e.g. no "drop zones" etc,) you are doing VERY well. A lot of golfers cannot do that after playing for a year.

Great job, man. Especially that 50. Keep it going.

VJ...not a shot by shot breakdown? Just kidding buddy, great job and hopefully you lived the moment during the round and left the analysis for after.

It was 67 degrees here in New Jersey today and 68 tomorrow but still snow on the ground!! Bummer!

Thanks guys. Yep it was a legit 103. I hit it OB on 1 and took a drop, but that was the only ball I lost today, and the last time I hit the driver. I had a few 7s...uh 4 to be exact. My misses were mostly pull hooks, especially with the longer clubs..real quackers. I have got to learn how to properly do axis tilt in the downswing. I think trying to start with NSA might be the best way for me, minus the twistaway. Gotta learn lag the sweetspot and tilt my teacup...Any thoughts?? I did putt the ball well, only one 3- putt. I think that is the strongest part of my game so far.

Hey VJ. I wanted to clarify your drop from OB. You have to re-tee the ball, you can't just drop a ball from where you entered the OB. You may have done that but I guess I am just wanting to make sure that you spend as much time on the rules of the game as you do your swing. (OK maybe not that much time!!!:))

You will thank me in the long run as it can be so much more rewarding to play and understand the game inside and out.

Without seeing your swing I would only add that you may be swinging more aggressively on the course as you do on the range as the results matter so much more on the course. You may be trying to make sure you hit that 7 iron 150 on to the green and rushing it while on the range you could make an easy swing and get it there no problem.

Oh..no, sorry. I meant dropped a shot..typing too fast. I hit it in a lateral water hazard, couldn't find it, went back to the tee hitting 3 and hit a 4 iron, then, a 9 iron short, chipped it up way past and had two putts, a nice 7 to start. As for my swing, even when I smooth it, the shot still can go left and not as far. I thought this was because I am not staying in my tilt long enough and not swinging my arms across my chest. I have a tendency to be body driven on the downswing and turn out of the way too fast. Kevin and I worked on this in our lesson, I am just not getting it right now. I tend to lose my balance a bit when I try to stay in my tilt longer. Maybe, too much hip thrust or something, I need more visuals/thoughts.

But see with a lateral hazard you have more options than to just re-tee. And that could save you the distance. You could drop where you crossed into the margin two clubs no nearer the hole or at the point you crossed the margin keeping the flag and that spot on a straight line as far back as you would like or on a spot equidistant on the opposite side of the hazard.

Yeah..Ill re-read the book and make sure I know the rules. In this instance though I pulled it so bad that it was more advantageous for me to go back to the tee and play the shot...The lie was better and the hole is pretty short.
