OK guys, this has gone far enough.. I said originally that having a flatter arm swing ALLOWS you (if you want!!) to use longer clubs....

"Will, it also allows a bigger swing radius...
I use a 47" driver and I'm only 5'10" and there is no way I am tall enough to swing it "upright"..."

Ok, either i don't understand your post of you don't understand swing plane.

I don't care if you are 5'10" or 6'5", the plane that the club you are swinging will look and feel different based on club length and club lie. It doesn't really matter if you TRY to swing it flat or TRY to swing it upright.

There is only 1 place to be "on plane" with every club. You either are on that, or you're not.

Jim,

You are over complicating what I originally said mate...:)

I'm sure you can figure which golfer below would have the flattest arms at the top and bigger clubhead swing arc..
Everyone is jumping on me here, but this is all I meant...

I still don't understand. If my arm measures 21", the club measures 45", and lets say my shoulder turn adds 10" to the travel of the club, i have a "total swing radius of 76".

The only variable that can change to make my 'arc' bigger is the amount of shoulder turn i create.

And if the club is 47" long you have a clubhead swing radius of 78".... but you can't swing the longer club on plane unless you flatten your swing (to me a flatter swing has flatter arms, not relative to the shoulder line, but the horizontal, which is where I came in)...therefore flatter arm swing allows you to swing longer clubs, thereby increasing your clubhead swing radius (over a shorter club)....

Perhaps I should have originally said a flatter arm swing allows you to use longer clubs and increase your clubhead swing radius....I thought that would be obvious form what I posted...maybe not....

I think the original point was that you have a longer radius with a 47" driver
than a 45" driver.

Also is not the radius at impact different if the left wrist is level vs uncocked?
Of course both will not match the lie angle unless there is a significant
difference in clubhead speed.

I stayed out of this but, I CAN'T STAND IT ANY MORE!!!!!!!!

Swing Plane Angle....

Say it again:

SWING PLANE ANGLE,

has NOTHING TO DO WITH Swing RADIUS!!!!

ZERO.

Question

If I give you a 50" driver and you swing it to the top, are your arms flatter at the top (from behind the line view) than when you swing your 44 or 44.5" driver?...

It makes sense that that would be the case. Heck, maybe it SHOULD be the case. But there are a lot of players who swing their hands to the same place in space, regardless of the length of club their using. I suppose it just depends on who's swinging, and how they swing.
