Float Loading

To me float loading is like playing with dynamite.

If you do it correctly, you can hit some amazing shots. Some of the longest and best shots I have ever hit were with a float loading procedure.

However, that being said, I think it's tough to consistently control and probably why a whole lot of high level golfers don't do it today. I found it very difficult to really maintain good clubface control and would often double cock and leave the face open.

but damn when you do get it right you can flat out hit some sizzlers.

I'm not too sure but I think when people try to float load thay still add wrist cock with the pulling arms too much and not with gravity and proper use of the ground. When done correctly its hould enhance feel for the clubhead, not be a risky thing to try.

but what if you have inconsistency with amount of wrist cock you are adding on the downswing, wouldn't that mess with distance control?

Like with everything, if float loading helps you, do it. If you dont need it or it doesnt help, dont do it. It certainly isnt necessary. I just think some people who i see try it snap their arms to really download the club.

What about the plane line? For those of you that have experimented with float loading I'd be curious to hear how it affected your ability to control/manipulate it.

I need to think about this some more, but for me I end up swinging too far to the right and subsequentlly have trouble w/ the longer clubs.

For me, float loading makes it easier to swing left, it's like loading and carrying left at the same time.

Are you really "floating" into more delay or hard full body down cocking? Just asking, there's a difference.

I talk about this subject alot with my students. I don't think it is necessary by all means but I think the feeling of it is very helpful with club awareness. It's like a dance. You and your body is the lead and the club is your dance partner. In order for your partner to know what is coming next the movements have to be subtle and free. And for you leading, you have to know where your partner is so you can guide it through the next sequence. I think if more people spent time on feeling what did happen instead of trying to make something happen, they'd have a much easier time moving forward.

I'm not sure I have an answer at this point. It's a pattern I've experimented with on a limited basis and have not yet seen it on video.

I can tell you that when executed correctly I love what the ball is doing. My trajectory is quite a bit lower and I'm guessing more spin (probably more downward attack), but it'll be interesting to see the flight w/ a non-range ball.

I need to give it some more time to make a better judgement tbh.

Good insight and I completely agree. The more tension free and looser my LCT is the better I hit it.

As far as the pivot goes, I'll need more work here to improve my consistancy.
