Float loading

me too. I can do the procedure if I keep the soft almost lazy wrists like Homer talked about but since the loading occurs on the downswing, I feel like after loading there is no time to forcefully straighten out that right arm with muscle power. It's difficult for me to go from swing thoughts of "easy, no effort, just let if flow" to all of a sudden "power through it with right arm, straighten that arm quickly." Just causes me all kind of problems, seems I can do one or the other. Funny thing is, I think the easy float loading is actually popping the ball harder than the forceful straightening. I know it's possible to do both because I've seen Brian's swing, it appears that he has an easy float loading going on but then is able to forcefully push clubhead through ball.

Ok...trick #1 to float loading:

Mind in your hands......move your HANDS.....just your hands......loose wrist......and "hit it with your pivot."

Awesome tip!! Thanks Brian! I've gotten quite proficient with the chips, pitches and punches but was having problem relating that to a full swing. Now this float loading seems a lot easier(Had to use pivot more).[8D]

When I was playing around with my chipping the other day, I found what I think is a good way to discern float loading from either drive or drag loading. Address a ball, but do it so that your backstroke is inhibited by a couch or wall. Make it so that you can only take it back maybe two feet. Now hit chip shots and figure out how you can hit it the furthest - while still maintaining the integrity of your flat left wrist and bent right wrist.

You should quickly see how, without room to cock the left wrist during the backstroke, you must make it occur during the downstroke. It's almost like freezing both wrists going back and then as you come down you allow the left wrist to load.

Great post Matt, a chip-pitch is I think what you are referring to, this also needed where a tree inhibits your backstroke on the course.
