Maybe jenhaoyen's friend hits the ground before the ball.....a sweep of the ground, I mean.

???

I have hit some large ones doing this. (not purposely though) Usually it is a real high "floating" soft draw, which makes sense. Usually goes much further than it looks like it should and rolls a lot more than it looks like it should. (for such a high flight)

One of the best drives I ever hit was like this.....put it past the hole on a 320 par 4. (slightly downhill and firm fairways, granted) There was a group on the green still (ack!) and they said it almost went in. Sunk the eagle from behind the hole too, baby. Whiz bang pow!

I used to hit a lot of drives like this with my flipping swing.

How did you fix it? the flipping that is? and is there anytime in which a good player will intentionally flip the club on longer shots? I hope that doesnt sound to foolish. I feel like Im very close to figuring out how to consistently NOT flip the club and intrigued by the subject.

Don't forget the part about the group you hit into roaring in applause as your ball toppled into the hole.

I thought the OP was talking about a drop kick too. At least that minimizes spin.

Are you talking about hitting the ground first then the club skips into the ball. I've heard Johnny Miller talk about this in his books. It puts tons of overspin right?

you cant put 'overspin' or top spin on a solidly struck golf shot.

the only way you can put top spin on a shot is by either topping the shot, or hitting the shot with negative loft

Aha...now I know what a "drop kick" is. Thanks Chris!!!

Getting back to my story:

And then this one girl took her shirt off and took her bra off and started jumping around...

Yeah, since the club touched the ground before hitting the teed up ball it has an upward angle of attack which means less spin. Whereas a divot infront having a downward angle of attack would have too much spin. That is why the golfing machine people an Bobby Clampett are wrong about a downward attack being a good thing on drives.

Oh God.....I went from someone who hit pretty good drives and particularly anything lower than a 7 iron (though always always very high) but could not hit wedges (very "fluffy" and inconsistent impact) or off a tight lie to save his life.

I basically then did NSA and Flipper until I could plain mash the crap out of the ball, mostly do nothing but draw my mashed short irons, and mostly do nothing but hook the crap out of my mashed driver. More closed clubface. Lots of forward lean. Hit with your pivot. (even though I always did)

Then you know you are ready for...

NHA......which I did at some point.

Now am in Custom-Ville.

It is the normal process, I think. (simplified)
