Gary Player on Golf Channel

I just watched a bit of Gary Player explaining his swing philosophy on Golf Channel.

Some of the stuff he's advocating is really not helpful. For example, he said that Hogan "kept the clubhead going straight down the line after impact longer than anyone who ever lived!"

Whaaaaaaaatttt????

Exactly what I thought when I heard/saw some people say that a player can open the clubface during impact with the ball to prevent a hook.

Given Gary Player's age he has playing reputation let him say whatever he wants. What's the big deal really, you don't like what you have heard don't apply it to your game. More than his golf tips or golf feels, he is in remarkable physical condition given his age. Now if he wants to talk about that I might listen to.

Gary Player is just saying what he believes is important in the golf swing after 60 years playing golf at a very high level. He doesn't like being laid-off at the top, likes a little stronger grip, likes the left thumb more under the shaft at the top, likes a good weight shift and full follow thru onto your left side and likes acceleration thru every shot. WOW, pretty radical stuff.

He gave his opinion on some very good player's swings he's seen in person in his lifetime. This our way or the highway and we know it all about the golf swing and everyone who disagress with us is stupid attitude is, well stupid. That's my opinion anyway.

I enjoy seeing these great players and their thoughts about the swing. I liked Lanny Wadkins, Larry Nelson's and Tom Leyman's also.

If you want to get your golf info from only one place, then I suggest keep the blinders on and don't look at anything else except this forum.

You'd be a LOT better off JUST going to this forum then TGC.

Sometimes watching is about entertainment. :) Would you jump all over your idol Johnny Miller (in person) for his opinions of his own swing? I agree that perception and reality in the golf swing are many times two separate things. But, I still want to hear their perception anyway.

I would listen to the porter at a Diner talk about the golf swing.

You can learn from anyone.

Remember, I go to all the national seminars, good or bad.

Can't argue that. I do give Frank Nobilo credit for trying to advance his knowledge of the physics of golf, but I think he says stuff and his colleagues just think he is nuts.

Which is a shame since he is trying (from what i remember i don't watch TV on golf much anymore) to educate the big name announcers and the viewers.

Next week it's bunker play with Gary Player. Player is considered by many to be the best bunker player ever. It'll be interesting to see if he can convey his knowledge on bunker play as well as he did with the full swing.

Yeh got to keep the torque! The TORQUE! Cock ya wrists! And ACCELERATE! Don't stand there. That's where I keep my mother in law!

How do you stand listening to the mugs with big reputations who are more misguided than a diner porter?
