Gary Player on TGC tonight

Anyone see Gary Player on Golf channel academy tonight? He showed a side by side down the line of Hogan and Tiger.

He said the reason Tiger hits hooks and slices is because his wrist is flat at the top of his swing unlike Hogan who was cupped. That puts Tiger in a position where his right elbow is too far away from his body at impact (unlike Hogan), thus he is hitting the ball on the outside quadrant.

I'm just curious what people watching this thought when Player was talking about Tiger's swing.

I just find it odd that someone playing as long as player would want to put people
(he says people should do this) with an open clubface up top. 99% of golfers slice the
ball and I can't see any benefit of telling people this.

Gary Player is a very nice man.

He is wrong, DEAD wrong.

He thinks HIS left wrist is bent at the top now, and it isn't.

Jack Nicklaus beat him for practice with a FLATTER left wrist than Tiger.

Junk.

It's great to see Gary in such great shape at 70 years young. And to see him running on the treadmill as fast as he did, I think is fabulous.

But I'll be damned if I give up pumping my titties at the gym...!

3 weeks ago Brandell Chamblee was going over a girls swing that is on Big Break I believe and he said the same thing. He noticed her flat left wrist at the top and said it was a flaw and it needed to be cupped. How come these pros don't have this general knowledge?

agree Brian...He is a nice man. Was fortunate to meet him, but I was rather flabergasted when he said this. Then he took his backswing and his wrist was flat then bent it and said see.

How can you recommend to people that more than likely slice the ball to begin with to have an open clubface at the top.

Excluding hogan...

Most people nowadays use a much stronger left hand grip that Hogan (did) and Tiger (does). Thus, there SHOULD BE a tiny "cup." Or as brian says, "anatomically" flat.

The main thing is that you just want the face to match the angle of the left forearm or if you're guarding against the slice a little towards the sky or guarding against the hook a little towards the ground.

I was not only impressed with his running speed, but the stability and efficiency of his motion. At that speed to have such a 'stable' upper body while running - well done at any age. At 70. Wow!
