Let's stick with the proper vocabulary:
attachment.php

The right hand is undergoing a combination of pronation, ulnar deviation, and flexion to and through impact.

It is worth adding that:

FLEXION on the picture = palmar flexion

EXTENSION on the picture = dorsi (dorsal) flexion.

Cheers

I don't see much in the up the line of Rory. More rotating left than pucking or new release. Adam Scott last picture shows some stuff along with Vegas.

Gotta look at more pics of Rory. IMO his swing is still progressing. When he swings well his face has no roll at all with a very modern release. When his body tugs and outruns everything and he gets a little trapped, there appears to be some roll. His misses are big hooks like the Masters last year when is swing was very poorly timed.

Lia,
You stated earlier in the thread that the right hand goes through a process of pronation, ulnar deviation and flexion up, including and beyond impact. I've ben looking at the great illustrations you posted and everyone of the tour pros seem to fill that equation with varying degrees of the three. Would it be your contention that if any one of these 3 go AWOL, then the release will be at best sub-optimal?

The way a player's hands "contact" the grip (the way the grip is structured) and the shot that the player is trying to hit dictates how the release will occur in regards to those three components. Rather than discuss what's optimum, the focus should be on how the grip is structured and the shot the player is trying to hit (the D plane that's being "constructed"). For instance, in regards to Na and Garcia, I have no idea what shot they each are trying to play but look at the last picture in the series for each player.

It's clear that Na and Garcia have very different grips and although it appears that Na is trying to play a big hook, if that was the only picture you saw, I don't think that was the case. Each picture shows a different looking release. I wouldn't say one is necessarily sub-optimum.

Fascinating. If we just assume they are trying to hit a regular drive, for example (no big, hoovering hooks or chopping, spiralling cuts) their relative grips will dictate how the equation is manufactured viz a viz the 3 aforementioned pieces. BUT, if any one of those 3 is completely missing, for whatever reason, will it totally destroy any sort of shot?
BTW Thanks for all the stuff you posted about this...It really is brilliant.

Shot selection, recovery from trapped or under plane, and heel contact would all give the player the look of roll even if it isn't a part of that players normal pattern
