Hanging back, spinning out, flipping

Guys

After some advice .. been struggling for a few rounds now where I think my tendancy is to spin my hips too quickly on the down swing but around the back leg. My left arm gets to far out as a result (off my chest) and i bow my wrist underneath to get the club somewhat on plane. My hands and arms try to catch up, but to save it I end up flipping through the arms, all while hanging on the back foot. Thus im hitting a a lot of hooks and then the odd high push right as a compensation move when I hold on - also a lot of thins

Need a few ideas to get me back on track .. one thing i did towards the end of yesterday was the feeling that my chest went forward on the DS. It felt like a lunge but it worked and now im wondering if that lunging 'feeling' wasnt actually a proper weight shift? It was like the right shoulder going downplane, but FORWARD and downplane if that makes sense? Like covering the ball with my chest?

Thomas, I have the exact same problem you describe when I get to swinging bad. I hang back, never get my weight to my left side, hips fly out and club gets stuck behind me. I've heard it described as "perverted axis tilt". Yesterday I was fighting it badly and shot a 90, which is about 12 over my handicap.

Some things that seem to help.

1. feel like the club is pulling you throw impact as opposed to you pulling the club.
2. Get your pivot right again, feel like you're crushing a coke can with your left foot. It helps me get my hips working correctly. I've even put a pole on the ground behind left butt cheek and tried to bump it to start my downswing.
3. Last tip is to think about swinging around your left leg.

Those are the things I try when things go south for me, it's a tough swing flaw to fix, and I'm still fighting it after 7 years:(

puttmad, thanks for the tip on raising the right heel. Hmmm, I think I've heard something similar to this, didn't Hogan mention that he use to try to point his right knee at the ball, kind of gives the same effect. I'm beginning to think Hogan had this same problem when he fought the hooks early in his career.

Im wondering if I set up with too much lean to the right and then slide leaving me stranded on that side? When I practiced this morning (and got fed up leakage hooking) I went right the other way to a stack and tilt type setup with more weight on my lead foot and seemed to get through it a whole lot better - Feeling was I was much more centered over the ball, my left shoulder was on top of the ball rather than way behind it and I dint feel as I if I had as much lean?
