Has Ledbetter destroyed Wie?

Just checking scores this morning in her return, 7 over after 5 holes! He has taken the best 14 and 15 year old player we have ever seen, and made her into crap! I hope Brian watches her swing this week and gives us his opinion. Will the golf world blame him or say it is her parents fault. She had the same parents when she played well!

Oh Dear

I see she is now 12 over for 13 holes played. Including a 10 on a par 5.

Something badly wrong there

She has WD from the tournament - she was +14 with 2 left to play. Sad to see such talent struggle.

Be interesting to see how she fares next week at Bulle Rock where she played well last year.

Way too many people influencing every aspect of her life. She will no longer be a "kid" again who just enjoyed hitting it, finding it and repeating the process till it was in the whole - she could "play" when she did that.

Hope she can weather the "mental storm" she is going thru right now.

After a couple minute chat with her manager she decides to WD. She can say all she wants about an injury, he told her that if she posted 88 no more LPGA this year. Even with her PGA sponsor exemptions and unearned cash, that would have been a HUGE blow to her having any creditability and any future invites.

I have been out at the event most of the week, her wrist only became a issue with the LPGA's plus 88 non member rule.
She was there all last week playing, has hit it bad the whole time.

"Wie wore bandages on her wrists during the round and said her withdraw was because she "tweaked" the injury and not because of an LPGA rule that bans nontour members for the year if they shoot 88 or higher. Wie was two bogeys from that scenario when she stopped."

She has been DE-Lagged

Ha.........hope she comes around.....she's too young and talented (and also important to the LPGA Tour) to get screwed up.

(esp. if it's due to the influences around her)

Excellent post

I've had a bad feeling about this for a while now, as I'm sure other people have as well. The pressure for her to perform must be huge. She's got this massive contract and has to step up and prove she deserves it. At the end of the day, she has won absolutely nothing and appears to be well on her way to becoming one of the greatest busts in the history of sports. Overhyped and thrown into competition that was way over her head too fast.

Unfortunately she has never learned to win and her confidence must be at an all time low right now. It would not surprise me if she completely dropped the game at some point in the near future.

Hope her parents saved that money from the Nike contract. Hindsight being 20/20 looks like Pressel may have been the better investment. That girl damn near won the US Jr., US Amateur, and US Open in the same year and already has a major.

Not only that but she has gone froma gorgeous golf swing to her new contraption. Still can't figure out what theehck she is doing. Looks like she is gonna miss the ball sometimes

Looks like she is ott now and has a wide open club face. Starting to look like the multitudes on the local driving range...

wie

I think the look of wie's swing is down to leadbetter trying (poorly) to stop her getting it stuck on the inside, i think thats why she is so upright now.

Actually that is what it appeared to me also..... I marshalled there all week. The two drives she hit on #3 (the par 5 where she made 10) must have been 110 to 120 yds apart. The first was sort of heeled I believe, at least it was fairly low and skanky...and so far right you wouldn't believe it. It was actually right of the caddie parking lot. One of the caddies had a yellow mustang shelby GT parked in front, and we warned him amateurs were playing on Wed. Well Michelle was actually right of the cars. Maybe 65-70 yds off target. The second was a pull hook, 40-50 yds off.

She has no clubface control and she still swings too hard on most shots. Oddly, she seemed not to want to be there. She complained about cameramen, gallery and was generally uncommunicative when not complaining, all week.

What is sad is that I believe the golf director at Champions Gate had Wie from the beginning and kept Wie from Leadbetter as long as possible because he takes the most tallented students away from the instructors at his academy. Sean O'Hair was a product of Champions Gate I believe but he left Leadbetter to go back to Steve Dahlby.

I believe this is a collaborative effort of Ledbetter/Wie's father and the media.

1. I believe Michelle should have been beating up on other junior golfers so she could taste consistent winning.

2. I think the media coverage has encourages the other two to make a number of bad decisions.

I hope she recovers.

"Listen Brian, You have no chance at all..."

"...he is sooooooosmart. He knows soooooooo much stuff. You wouldn't have a prayer.

This is a close-as-possible-to-exact quote by a Leadbetter assistant, to me, at dinner one night a few years back in Orlando, when I had the misfortune of sitting next to this poor misinformed soul. He really thought his guy walks on water. My guys know I don't, and I ENCOURAGE THEM to learn from everyone.

Anyhoo, I said before that Lead is trying to "keep up with the times." And the "times" are reverse or near-reverse pivots, with open clubfaces.

Lead should stick to the pattern he knows. If he has someone with power ot burn, he isn't all bad.

Again....someone who is easily in the top 1% of all 60,000 teacher worldwide, who would get run off the stage in any debate or teach-off with me. ;)

There are 1000 folks on this forum that couldn't possibly messed up this girl that bad.

Having said that....how well you play at 13-16 has NOTHING to do with how well you'll wind up after you realize what life is about and how hard golf is.

Brian - Your Opinion

Brian - In your opinion, do you think that many of these "teaching stars" wind up "over teaching" their students in order to justify the price tag.

Sometimes it is best to leave well enough alone and let a talented player develop some through their own trial and error.

I think "Lead" made a mistake in trying to teach MW all of those fancy knockdowns and cut off swings. Sometimes the simple way is the best.

Just my humble opinion.

Michelle Wie's instructor at the Academy in Bradenton was Gary Gilchrist and he left to go to the IJGA in Hilton Head. He was going to take MW with him and DL stepped in and took MW from him.
