Have you used a launch monitor?

Have any of you used a launch monitor? If so, did you find it to be useful? By that I mean, did you actually get another Driver and see a noticeable difference? Or, did you simply find out that you need a lesson to eliminate a swing flaw:)?

I have one scheduled for later this week and trying to determine if it's worth my money and effort.

Thanks,

Go for it. It is really worth it. Just ignore the guy interpreting it for you. I doubt he will tell you you need a more forward leaning clubshaft or you need to sustain the line of compression.

Launch monitors are just like golf clubs....you REAAAAALLLLLY need to know how to:

1) use the monitor
2) INTERPRET the results
3) fit accordingly

Also, the type of monitor you use and the ball you use will have DRAMATIC results. A good launch monitor fitting can tell you a lot of things. But only if you have a clubfitter that knows what he's doing.

Please let me know what monitor you're going to be on as well, are you going to swing in doors are out doors? Where are you going for the fitting?

Launch monitors most likely will not stop you from hitting the ball fat, and according to you is one of your biggest flaws. Untill you get more forward shaft lean and start hitting down on the ball, or whatever you need to do to stop hitting it fat, you will be left searching. No need to waste your money on a problem that is not club related.

I agree with both Brian's and Jim's comments. I got fitted by these guys www.precisiongolf.co.uk . I was using an R7 TP 10.5* driver with an S but tipped up to X flex Fujikura 660 . On my faster swings 110 MPH my spin rates were huge IRO 4500 and launch angle was too high. The launch monitor showed that I was carrying the ball less far at 110 MPH than I was at 105 MPH due to the increase in spin rates. The fitter used hotstix ( Go to the Precisiongolf website to read more)They recommended a 9.5 R7 TP ( Low spin head . The big headed 460s tend to be high spin)with a fujikura 652 R flex that they tipped up somewhere between stiff and X stiff. for some reason they felt that this would keep the spin rates down better than a stiff flex. I tested both drivers head to head and hit the new one ( Brian and Mike Finney have hit it ) 25 yards further. Against the wind the difference was huge . The new driver got my spin rates down to about 3200

I do hit the ball chunky on occassion. But to be honest, if I drive the ball 260-280 and can shoot in the mid- to high-70s, my swing can't be that bad. I may not go in with a perfect swing, but I will go in with something that can provide some meaningful data.

Besides, I've had two lessons from Brian, I can't be that bad can I[8D]?

Hue/Archie Swivel, I think I'll take your advice!
