followed brians grip per article, learned the pivots, was pretty consistent for a couple weeks.

now, im either 1) snap hooking 2) hooking with a VERY low trajectory, or 3) not even making contact with the ball, except to push it hard right at about a 55 degree angle about 20 yards.

im doing this with my driver and my irons, even my SHORT irons and wedges....

i have tried moving the ball back in my stance, no workie. tried weakening my grip, no workie. tried different swing planes. no workie. tried to keep the clubface staring at the ball as much as possible in backswing. no workie.

someone, please help! this has been going on for 2 straight weeks, about ready to give up hope...

Sounds like you are getting clubhead throwaway.

Are you losing the bend in the right wrist through release/impact interval?

densi: thanks for replying. to answer your question, i am pretty sure im maintaining the proper hinge throughout the swing.

It sounds to me like you are under-plane (too much inside-out) through impact.

And possibly with a bowed left wrist. Your plane may have followed your clubface position.

Make sure your left wrist is flat (as opposed to arched/bowed) and swing over the bar (which should FEEL overly left and maybe even over the top).

Agree with Ragman- swing left from the top in your practice swing. Your divots should look straight or even curving slightly to the left at the end. Think "high to low" from the top, as opposed to "low to high".

ok guys- hit approximately 150 drivers off the deck today. no help, still same thing....

i feel like i cant get back down to the ball when i make my downswing, and am doing nothing but beating blisters into my right hand.

im either dribbling it out 30 yards with my 8 iron, pull- hooking it about 5 feet off the ground about 75 yards, or hooking it the same.

whats really frustrating, is my 8 iron is my 150 yard club, up until 3 weeks ago.....

NOTHING feels right. im in trouble here.

help!

If you can't get back down to the ball, then the right shoulder isn't getting low enough (axis tilt) at impact.

Still check a video of your swing to see if you are still sustaining the lag. I swore I was "super lagging" on my swings last year only to see on tape I was releasing much earlier then I though. "THE HORROR" of it was too much. I fixed it.

Rusty,

Try to get your left THUMB under the club and the top without getting any more than super slight left wrist bend (you CAN get it under with it flat too).

Let me know if it helps...

What did you do to fix it? Thanks.

brian:

you mean left thumb under the club at the top of the backswing?

also, i thought the left wrist hinged when the right wrist hinged? or not? mine is.

rusty, the left wrist hinges and the right wrist bends. If you have a problem visualizing this, go to the articles that brian wrote and look at his "twist away" drill. He shoes what happens when you hinge both your wrists versus hinging only 1 and bending the other :)

Rustyself, I've struggled with the same thing at times, It could be you're hitting what I would call a smothered hook. For me, sometimes in and effort to make sure I'm getting lag the right should will across the plane instead of down the plane. Result a closed clubface and a smothered hook. Work on keeping that right shoulder back and working down the plane.

ok, hit 7 bags this morning, 350 balls, still hooks. got out of it for about 10 balls, i THINK by opening my hips before swinging down with my arms.

does that make sense? if my hips stay closed and dont open at or shortly before impact, would this cause my problem? the only reason im asking is that it was during my last bag of balls that i discovered this, and i was just too darn tired to go back and get another bag.

something else that MAY help: i have NEVER, in the last 3 years, had a problem with blisters. now, my right ring finger is EAT UP with them....

guys, i SURE DO appreciate you hanging in there with me thru this!

when you open your hips too much before dropping your arms you are getting "stuck" and going to block or push the ball hence no hook.
