He's the Best....now what?

I've never been much of a Tiger follower but how does Tiger have more guts than every other golfer (and why would that be important for a golfer)? As far as I can tell, he had a higher level of concentration and ability but he never struck me as someone who is gutsy.

It's true, he literally does have more guts. His latest MRI showed more guts, larger brain, and a bigger heart. How do you think he's able to will his putts? Come on, Noobie, this is all old news.

Tiger fits the definition of gutsy, like him or not.

You mean the same guy who's pulled out of two straight Player's championship? The same guy who lost to YE Yang by 3 strokes after heading into the Final Round of the PGA Championship with a 2 stroke lead. While Tiger's last US Open victory is stuff of legends, he seems to be doing as many "non-gutsy" things as "gutsy" things on the golf course these days.

Yeah that guy, the one that is second in Majors won, the guy that blew away the field in the 2000 U.S. Open by 15 shots on a tough Pebble Beach course where no other player with all their guts could break par, the guy that owned all 4 majors at the same time where no other player in the history of the modern majors has done even with all their guts.

Yeah that guy who won the Masters by 12 etc. etc. I think it takes some intestinal fortitude to go out there under intense scrutiny and perform when everyone and their pooch expects you to win and you do it time after time. It's easy to sit back and criticize when someone is down and injured and nitpick that he lost 1 major to Y.E , how many has Y.E. won or for that matter anyone else in the last 15 years, I mean they have all the guts, what's their excuse, can't they perform under intense pressure or are they gutless....Geeeez, really, are you sure?

This is silly.

Tell me how guts translates to winning championships. Can you even define what it is, quantify it? And how does it show up on the golf course? Last time I checked, this is a "scientific" golf forum. Things like "guts" and "clutch" are fallacies propagated by the mass. Tiger won because he's simply the most talented golfer of this generation. Corey Pavin is generally considered "gutsy." Where are all his championships compared to all the "non-gutsy" golfers?

It's in the dictionary and every fifth grader understands what it means, except for you.

Nice one footwedge. I must have been too busy studying math and science- you know things which are actually concrete and don't need a bunch of handwaving arguments to convince someone. Maybe you should get acquainted with the 21st century.

Then again you acknowledge it's existence by your post that Tiger has done as many non- gutsy things as gutsy things, so your arguing both ends, one post for the existence of gutsy and one post against the existence of gutsy, that's funny....LOL.

Go back and read my posts. I always put "gutsy" and "non-gutsy" in quotations for a reason- I'm merely using the parlance that you and others are using. Winning tournaments is a skill that you learn. Did you watch the US Open? Did you hear Rory McIlroy say that he suddenly gained "guts" which enabled him to win the US Open after his apparent Master's debacle? No. He said he learned how to win. In fact, how many times do you hear a golfer say he won based on guts. Not often.

By "you and others", I assume you mean us Humans. So I'm not alone in knowing the meaning of the word gutsy and yes I have heard it used many times by many people in many different circumstances, just because Rory didn't say it means nothing to your insinuating that Tiger has none in your post. So you use it when it suits you and deny it's existence otherwise, must be a 21st century thing...lol.

Let me see if I can clarify this for you. Tiger very well may have "guts" the way you or most ppl define guts. No one really knows because only Tiger knows what he's really thinking or feeling. I only disputed the notion that Tiger has more guts than any other golfer and whether "guts" enables you to come back and an otherworldly golfer. I believe it's a fallacy to attribute Tiger's success to "guts."

In the end why would Tiger need "guts" to play golf and win tournaments? Thats something he's been doing since he could walk and nothing could be more second nature to him. "Guts" implies courage. Why would Tiger need courage when he's the most gifted golfer of all time and is a pure genius at golf?

If "guts" is critical to voodoo, black magic or some kind of Harry Potter s#!t, then Tiger had it and it matters in winning golf tournaments.

Rory looks to get underplane at times to me. No one agrees, must be my eyes. :D
I fear Tiger is finished :( barring an elite surgeon . His knee is obviously so bad . I'm amazed I've just typed that. :( .

Rory gets inside out and late. He hits a body braking, catch up hook. Not underplane at all.

Brian Manzella, brianmanzella.com, 01-06-2011, 07:28 PM, Who's game would you take over the next five years—Rory.

I really hope Rory would shoot 62 the last day and break ALL THE STUPID meaningless records, so they could just go back to playing golf on 7200 yard courses.

Thanks Rory—golf is back!

Maybe the British is truly the greatest championship. 2009 at Turnberry where Tom Watson nearly turned back the clock as evidence. Tom would have had zero chance at Congressional.

Hey, you don't get it and never will, but many of us do. I'll leave it at that.
