Hip movement

When I take my shoulder turn my right hip turns with it which causes a reverse weight shift. How do I correct this?

Jerry,
You need to pivot around your right hip, not your lower spine....
The top of your right femur bone (where it joins the hip) must be fixed in space, then you pivot around it.....

because you have two legs...:)
if you had one leg it would be ideal to pivot around your spine...
With two legs if you pivot around your spine your right hip goes in the wrong direction (back and then towards the target)..
Try it against a wall sometime, if you use your spine your hips can't move correctly...

there are plenty of people who would disagree with that. indeed they would say that is the optimal way to do it. if you go back and look at brians swing, you will see hip starts to move towards the target as he completes his backswing. hogan also did this.

no problem with what you say puttmad, just that almost nothing in golf is "always".

just the 3 imperatives. and not even they are always obeyed ;)

pecky,
I always feel that where body use is concerned, sometimes you have to listen (or abide) by what your body naturally dictates..
For example, walking...
When you walk your body instinctively knows that once the foot in the air hits the ground it needs to carry most of your weight before you lift the back foot off the ground...if it didn't you would fall over...therefore, most of your weight goes to the top of the femur bone on that leg...and if you change direction you would pivot around that point...not around your spine.
Now for the golf swing, your arms (and the weight of them and the club) move to your right...your body should naturally compensate for this by moving more weight to the top of your right femur, than if you didn't have your arms stuck out there.....and if you now wanted to change direction (pivot) you would naturally pivot around that point..not your spine.

I don't know what Brian is doing in his swing..maybe the swings you have seen involve more weight staying on the front foot...I don't know, it may just be an part of Brian's swing dynamic, ...how does it look with his driver?.....
