Hip Pain?

Do any right handed golfers get pain in their right hip from the golf swing? I get some chronic pain in my right hip. That leads to pain on the outside of my right knee and sometimes my right shin. I have done some research, and I am pretty sure this is all related. I am just curious if anyone else gets this type of pain and what they do to treat it. Stretching, etc.

If you are currently employing the "right anchor" methodolgy of not letting your right knee change flex, this can be a result.

I don't hold my right knee in position. I let it straighten. I actually have tried to stop letting it straighten thinking that it might reduce my hip turn and thus the pain.

The pain is on the outside of my right hip. Also, on the outside of my right knee. It is like a constant dull ache. It doesn't keep me from doing any activity once I start it.

Swing:

Does your hip ever lock or have a catch accompanied by a sharp pain in front of your thigh? If it does you may have a torn hip labrum, which occurs at a fairly high rate in golfers.

If your pain is only as you described; a dull ache on the outside of the hip and the outside of the knee you may have ITB syndrome as your pain distribution corresponds with the course of the ITB. A link to look up what is the ITB syndrome: http://www.med.umich.edu/1libr/sma/sma_knee-ili_sma.htm.

An inexpensive way to treat this can be found at: http://www.t-nation.com/readTopic.do?id=475832. In addition I would do some stretching of the ITB and strengthening of the glutes and core.

Your best bet would be to find a good orthopedic or sports PT in your area and have them evaluate you.
