Hitting better without the pivot...help?

Believe it or not, the more DYNAMIC your pivot, the MORE twistwaway on the downswing you need!

The word Dynamic in unbelieveably broad.....what are we talking about here?

More DYNAMIC????

What does that mean?

Energetic, ethusiastic, purposeful? ....hanging on for dear life?

A vigoruos activity that is producing or undergoing change or development? ......timing an event we have no control over?

Or relating to energy and forces that produce motion?.....a geometrically oriented linear force....non compensation?

What is DYNAMIC? Please clear this up so that any further statements made about this word can make sense!

"...... and still can reach past your shirt seam with your left hand (not with a club)"

At the risk of asking a stupid question, can someone explain what shirt seam we are talking about???

I'm going to see if I can post a video of myself 'trying' to perform the step by step - that way we can at least critique something.

Hi Brian,

When you said 'stretch all the pinch-able fat and skin from the left side of your torso', this probably gives a maximum axis tilt.

Is it possible to have too much axis tilt? How do we know how much axis tilt is too much for each club and intended ball flight? Is Axis Tilt and ball flight corelated?

Apologise if I am asking too many questions.

thanks,

daniel

Yes it's possible to have too much. Too much tilt is when you can't get yourself open enough at impact and you end up "hanging back." you also know when you are swinging too far right. Again, because you aren't open enough.

I don't know that I get it either. Bottom one?

Straight...Straight...Straight...some curves...on my putts :)

Score: 74 (par 70) - something I haven't done in more than 3 months.

That was the result of doing the step-by step...plus some drag loading and soft hands - which was key.

Brian, guys, I haven't hit this consistently in a LONG time, light grip - body turn starts the takeaway, remember to drag load...then at the top...just let go and swing (stretching my left side was just a result, not a thought). The drag loading already sets up my twistaway - so no thoughts about i there.

This even worked well with my driver, the only thing that changed on it was that I stood straight up - arms stretched to the ball, club doesn't touch the ground. That's it.

I hope this wasn't just a good round - looking to break 70 next month in time for the Club Championship. Thanks Brian...guys.

Btw, I feel my swing just looks butt ugly...it may have pretty results - but I just know it looks wierd...so I have to remind myself not to record my swing. that could be bad sometimes.

Dynamic means the creation, storage and delivery of power to the ball. The more efficiently the power is created and stored, and the more accurately it is delivered to the ball, the more dynamic the swing.

Thank you djm....I like it!

And thank you to the birdiemeister, too! I love all your posts and insight!!!

somehow square the clubface

Let me try to guess why. The more dynamic your pivot, the more you tend to float load the shaft which tends to get you under the sweetspot and bend your left wrist.

But I have to see there are some very good players who have the ability to somehow square the face up and get back on the sweetspot during release.

Yeah, how do they get that done??? I swing like this a lot of the time and the only way I can close the clubace is to actively and conciously roll my left forearm over so I am catching rain at the follow through or just beyond when swinging good.

At address, bend over from the hips enough so you can reach the ball with little or no knee bend, and still can reach past your shirt seam with your left hand (not with a club).

With the butt of the club pointing as near to your belt buckle as you can, use your stomach muscles to move the grip end of the club in the takeaway, as if the head and was stuck in the ground. Use your hands to reach for the spot you want to hit at the the top, pulling all the slack out of your body, all the way down to your left foot.

From the top, start down by using the ground to stretch all the pinch-able fat and skin from the left side of your torso. Make a motion that would throw your arms right off off your body if you had detachable arms like a Mannequin. These arms should hit the ground near the target line just ahead of the ball. RESIST moving the "bowtie" area forward. Stay as bent over as you can and finish with your hands as far from your left ear as you can.

Brian posted this about a week ago. After reading it, it made perfect sense to me. I went to the range and tried it, but I was doing it wrong, so my balls went off target right. I kept working on it an began incorporating this in the backswing and to start the downswing, as I played. My ball striking was improving little by little. Yesterday, a light went on. I had unknowingly been pivoting too much around and not enough down on the downswing. Suddenly, my drives were straighter and while on the same medium high trajectory, they were more piercing and a good 20+ yards longer.

Suddenly my irons gained about 10 or so yards, but I didn't realize it at first. I played and hit many irons too far, but my shots were so close to on target, I scored the best I have in a year, 4 over. I went back to the range today and practiced this some more. I ran into a friend and we played a quick 9. I realized my 150 club was now a 9 iron. Before my first lesson with Brian in May, it had been a 7 iron. More importantly, my bad swings were straight, a little thin and most likely close to or on the front of the green. Shot 3 under for today's nine. Mind you, in May I was consistently in the mid to high 80s, with an occasional round between 79-83.

Brian's lessons and his input on this forum is the most effective information I have come across in 23 years of golf.

Thanks Brian!

Real nugget pattern for dummies

Yes, this is a real nugget, even by the high standards here otherwise. Still don´t understand the shirt seam and the bit about hitting a spot at the top.
