Hogan vs. modern swing

I recently saw some pics of Hogan downline. looked to me like the club shaft was pointing way left of the target line at the top. Is this correct or a bad camera angle?

i have pics of hogan downline too, but to me it looks like it is a result of his short arm swing, like if he kept swinging his arms he would be down the line

BTW - does anyone know if the Shell's Snead/Hogan film is available on DVD, or if there are any plans of releasing them on DVD?

ALL good swings are started with a slide of the hips back toward the target. I just don't think this move is something that needs to be done on purpose. It is a natural athletic movement.

It should be natural or appear that way. Knudson said the same thing. The key is to lag the arms, hands, shaft and club head. Just as Hogan pictured it on pags 94-95 in "Modern Fundamentals of Golf". Couples is a good example.

Thanks for the Knudson reference mb6606..... I picked up his book, simply put - outstanding. More people should read it.

Brian - what are your thoughts on Knudson? Seems like Flick/Hibbard in general approach.

Simply put - 'swing' the club on plane, and let your body respond.

Knudson, per se, I have little problem with...

But..

The guys who (thought they) were his disciples in the 80's and early 90's were teaching some weird stuff and hurt a lot of people.

Sounds like Ballard? :)

Wide downswing isn't the worst, as long as the club is 'swinging', and is allowed to load/unload/lag - I assume you meant an early release? Given the proper 'swing', and the body responding to it, it would be impossible to have a 'wide' downswing (i.e. the same as the backswing) - yuk indeed.
