Honesty - golfs true secret

- Were you picked early, middle or late for playground games?

- did anyone ever say to you that you were fast, strong or athletic?

If you answered yes above, copy those power moves that you see in the likes of a Bubba Watson or Dustin Johnson. You 'll know the first time you try it and video if you'll ever be able to do it.

Why is golf so great? Because there are so many ways to attack a golf course. Precision, long range assault and deft scoring ability are 3 such ways.

FACT - not everyone will be able to hit the ball far with club head speeds approaching 120

FACT - continuing to attemp physical movements that are impossible (for you) athletically is folly and delays potential progress.

FACT - different shots require different mechanics e.g. Hitting a 300 yard carry drive has very little in common with a "chippy, flighted 8 iron into the wind from 120yds.

Everyone wants to hit the ball prodigious lengths, but not everyone can nor will they ever.

Love it.

I can hit a long ball and have consistently let myself down by trying to hit a shorter club than I should into greens (WHY!), but I score my best playing boring golf.

And part of the truth in golf is just being honest with yourself - not only your physical limitations but also coming to grips with what you actually understand about the golf swing. It took a long time for me to realize that just about every magazine, golf "tip" (more like myth), garbage on the golf channel, blabbering commentators are either re-hashing what works for them or is just plain wrong. If this forum has done anything, it's humbled me. I used to think I knew a lot about the swing. I don't. But what little I do know, thanks to this forum, has helped me tremendously.
