How do I stop laying it off?

Brian, I'm a low-handicap player with a unique takeaway/backswing problem: I tend to take the club too far inside on the takeaway; but instead of lifting and then getting across the line at the top (like most people seem to do), my club stays too flat and behind me going up, and I get laid off and floppy at the top, with a very shut face and a very bowed wrist. The club's too far behind me coming down, and it comes way too far from the inside. I end up hitting duck hooks, blocks and heel shots.

How do I correct the takeaway and backswing so that I'm more on plane going up and less laid-off at the top.

All LAID OFF positions at the top are not the same.

The one you have is due to TOO MUCH LEFT ARM (#3 accumulator) turn in the backswing.

Try to make a backswing where the tip of your thumb ALWAYS points in the same direction as your belly-button.
