The video below is of a mini tour friend of mine hitting his driver. I wanted to see if anyone could tell me how he hits it so far. He is 5'11" maybe 160 pounds but he rips his driver. I have been with him multiple times where he has flown it over 310. No one can believe how far he hits it. He out drives me by over 40 yards. Thanks for your help

The simplest explanation, I think, is that he has a higher muscle contractile speed for the muscles that are responsible for generating force in the golf swing. He's a more powerful striker of the ball than you are, which is why he outdrives you by 40 yards.

Your question is similar to something like, "How does LeBron James jump so high?" The obvious difference is that hitting a golf ball is inherently more complicated than jumping, so a more involved consideration of technique would be necessary to fully answer your question.

That's Trae Ely, isn't it? I'm friends with him too.

Having recently played with him, I can vouch that Trae is very long and pretty straight too. He was hitting a very nice fade last time I played with him. In my opinion Trae snaps his chain very well and has very good launch conditions with his driver (very close to being optimized). Couldn't meet a nicer guy either.

He's got fantastic geometry and clubface alignments, that's for sure. I play with a guy who is about 5'11 and 180 pounds and hits his driver about 350 off the tee and hits his 7-iron 200 yards with ease. And he doesn't swing hard. I'm sure there's some fast twitch muscles going on there, but it also helps to have great mechanics and a great pivot.

I learned a new saying that i like a lot, from Ben, it's because of the "human condition." Essentially, there are some people who are just freaks. *shrug*

He's obviously gifted but I'll bet anything he's totally optimized his launch conditions and sqeezes every yard and is fitted well for his driver.

With a 200 yard 7 iron, I suppose that his gaps are his biggest challenge.

Eh, sort of. And he hits the ball pretty straight as well. The one course we play on is 6,700 yards but pretty tight. So he has to hit 5 wood or an iron off the tee. He can hit a driver, but his margin for error is so small it's not worth it on most holes and he doesn't have enough patience to keep hitting 5-wood or an iron. He's not a good putter either. Those are his main problems. But what's weird is he doesn't look like he swings that hard nor does the ball make a big 'woosh' sound. It's not until you see his ball land that you realize how far he just hit it.
