How to play this shot.........

Longer rough around the greens that is wet.
I get a lot of lies like this where I have trouble advancing the ball.
I have low bounce on my 60 and 56 wedges and am thinking I need more bounce.

I'm not sure if I should open face or close face.

Any suggestions?

1) Open the face*
2) Open your stance to have the now open face, facing your target
3) Play a "bunker shot" out of the rough swinging along your new open plane line

*Note you can do this 2 ways:

1) Tour way = open the face then take your grip. You're gonna have to roll the face through impact though
2) Brian's way = take your grip and rotate the face open. Now all you have to worry about is the wrist's cocking, no rolling involved.

I prefer 2) for the majority of shots however i will employ 1) on occasion.

Remember that every degree you open the club isn't a full 1*, it's more around .5-.6* of a degree. Last, you can vary the hinge action for different ball trajectories. Use only angled or vertical.

How about tight lie in fairway right in front of green.Once again very wet conditions where you can chip or pitch.

In dry conditions I can it that low checking shot. These wet spongy conditions are totally freaking me out.The wedge just seems to dig and get stuck ball comes up way short.

Hybrid chip if there is nothing in my way or even putter if hybrid is too much club. If you must "fly" the ball oversomething, take a lower lofted club like a 9 iron or PW and use a putting stroke and focus on clean contact.

Most people have trouble with wet conditions because they "quit."

Thanks,Jim.

Went out last night and worked on the Brian Manzella opening wedge shot.I had tried this before and totally forgot the concept.

Worked very well.

Bounce

In wet conditions try more bounce, this help prevent the leading edge from catching and digging. 12* of bounce and slightly open the face and you'll be good to go.
