I have become a pushin'/hooking machine

Played 12 holes before my scramble last night and then a 9 hole scramble.

Turns out the problem was in my set up but....the setting up slightly open didn't seem to work as a fix. Results were inconsistent.

So, while trying the open set up, I remembered something from Brian's last lesson with me. I went to that set up and.....eureka, consistent results with much much better results on misses. Somehow I had drifted away from that set up.

After the fix, I felt much more comfortable over the ball.

Problem is, I started hooking my driver!!! laughing....jeez, does this stuff ever end???

I'm interested to know what the additional set up is. Also, I'm curious if Brian thinks setting up open is a band aid masking other swing problems or is this a solid swing. By the way Bill, I'm just down the coast from you in Brevard County, how do we get Brian down here for lessons ?:)

Can't speak for Bill, but I battle the pulls and hooks and took a lesson from Brian last year and the set up changes he recommended for me because I had "learned to fix my slicing problem" (his words), was that I had the ball too far forward and had too much axis tilt at address causing too much swinging to right field. He had me set up in a more "stacked" position (the spine had a very small tilt away from the target). For me it was this and ball position that helped fix me.

Jim, if one was to adopt a more open setup, do you need to make any compensations (i.e. clubface alignment at setup, ball position)?

UGH.....mothaf&($#&(, coc(*$#(*k,

so, after the first post, worked hard on set up. Last Wednesday, I could almost call my shot I was hitting it so well. Then, just as it always happens with a new feel, the feel leaves. Can't get to "feel" that same nice setup I had. Now, the PUSHES are 90% of my iron shots

Other than they are a push, they are really nice shots and distance is excellent.

In aiming left, should I be aiming the face left as well or aiming the face at the target. When I turn my body left and leave the face at the target, the results are inconsistent.

Thanks!

Can you give a couple of for instances?

If you go to a more open stance than you are used too your plane will be less in/out because you will be more open at impact (generally). So let's say you are used to swinging 5* inside/out with a 3* open face; you'd get a nice little draw.

Now all of a sudden you go from 5* inside/out to 2* inside/out but keep the same 3* open face, you'll hit a small push fade. So just keep that in mind when you are messing with changing around the angle you attack the ball, you might have to change the clubface at impact to keep the same ball flight you are used too; or not if you want it to change.

To me the forward tilt is the cause for alot of probs, I think so many folks raise up on the BS and/or raise up on the DS, and don't realize it.......
