I agree that the box is a force drill and may not cure the problem. There are quite a few ways to hit the hosel fade.

Of course it depends on the reason but I often see an OTT shank and then the next swing is more over the top and more out because the guys that dont frequent message boards tend to think they hit it off the end of the club, which as we know does not cause a shank.

Like Jim said, this drill would just allow the "shank swing" to aim differently down a more inside path. It's better than nothing I guess but I would be surprised if this would cure a shank permanently. The basic mechanics that caused the shanks is still there.

A golf instructors job is not that easy!

I understand the argument, but I disagree.

Give the mind a specific focus and it will make the appropriate changes to make it happen. So long as the student maintains the focus the problem will not re-appear. The trick is finding the right thing to focus on and not some "one trick pony".

The problem may or may not re-appear but the underlying fault probably won't go away.

It's a bit like the player who transitions the club too steep. To counter OTT,they learn to swing out to right field. All they have done is take an OTT swing and aim it out to the right.Swinging to right field is not going to fix the steep transition.

Apparently you just haven't seen it happen. I have.

You have every right to your opinion and so do i and ej20...however while i don't disagree that what you are proposing *can* work, i'm just saying that for the majority it won't. Again you may even disagree with that, but if i could just influence my students to do what i want them to do i'd be a very rich guy ;)
