I need some help

Well I haven't posted here in a very long time, but here goes. I think posted last when I was a little better than a 20 handicap, now I have an 8.5 index mostly due to my short game (it only took me four years to understand that was the most important part of the game:p). Now to the other part of my game! I'm a flipper and a bad one at that. I use a golf machine based method to swing and found that it has helped my contact and striking abilities some, but I still have a lot of problems. The most aggravating part of my problem is that I can feel my flip happen just before my left arm reaches perpendicular to the ground on the downswing, yet I am powerless to stop it! Every swing the same thing; I feel it happen at the same spot and can't stop it! I know I can hold that wrist angle, I do it all the time in chip shots and pitch shots! As you can imagine I am VERY interested in the "confessions of a former flipper video" but I do have a question. On another forum someone mentioned that "never slice again" might be even better for helping me keep a flat left wrist. Should I pick up NSA or the Flipper video?

Also if you would like to see my swing I can post a link to a youtube video of it (is that within the forum rules?).

Thanks!

You flip because....

MANZELLA RULE #423

IF YOU KNOW WHAT A FLIP REALLY IS, AND YOU KNOW YOU DO IT, AND YOU KNOW YOU SHOULDN'T, AND YOU ARE TRYING NOT TO, BUT YOU DO ANYWAY:

You hit it better when you flip.

Because, you have a clubface problem, or a REALLY BELOW PLANE problem.
Where do you driver misses go? Where do your 6-iron misses go?

Hi Brian,
My driver miss is a push. Sometimes a straight push, sometimes it will draw or hook on top of that push. I'd say that is about the same miss I have for my 6 iron as well, except that occasionally I will also hit a pull hook. Sometimes I'll actually have 3 piles of balls on the range when I'm hitting. One where I am intending the ball to go, one directly off to the right when I hit a push (generally a little shorter as well) and one that is off to the left and is a little longer (the pull hook/draw...although I don't feel over the top). Generally speaking though, my miss is a push.

I am going to check the forum rules and if it's allowed I will post a link to my swing. Unfortunately the only one I have showing a DTL view is when I am not hitting any balls (just practicing in the backyard).

Thanks again!

Well I couldn't see a rule saying I can't post a link to my swing on youtube, so here it is:

Now I was just practicing in my backyard working on feel. The DTL view (which shows my swing plane) starts at about 1:24.

For a video of me hitting shot (only face on view though) go to this link:

Thanks for the quick response I appreciate it!

My back is fine and I have experienced no problems with it, but I think any swing can potentially hurt your back especially if your not performing it properly.

S&T Thought

For a video of me hitting shot (only face on view though) go to this link:

golfman5900,

1) FWIW, I highly recommend all of Brian's videos..I haven't picked up NSA but have CFF, SDP and NHA..

2) IMO, it sounds and looks like you use S&T because you said your swing is based on TGM which they claim in their video..If this is the case, you might want to check the level of your head...It goes a whisker left at the top but more importantly down quite a bit to impact..It's my understanding in S&T that your waist bend and tilting action must cancel each other out and have a net result of a stationary head..So, if you go down (IMO) this will contribute to your group of balls on the right..

3)This post is only intended to help and not step on anyone's toes..;)

Hope it helps,

Mashie72

Thanks Mashie, I am willing to accept any and all help avaliable!

Brian, looking at my swing and knowing my misses, which video do you think would be a better initial purchase?

Thanks again

Ok I think I'm going to get Confessions of a former flipper.....it's only 10 bucks (which is a great deal) and I can't see never slice again on the videos page...

Edit: just paypal'd for confessions of a former flipper.....are the web login and PW sent to my paypal email?

Ok so I've watched Confessions a couple of times now and understand the concepts. I have no flip when I chip or pitch, but on full swings its there. I'm trying to get to impact where I see my hands in front of my front foot but I'm having a tough time. I can do knock down/punch swing and hold the lag/flying wedge pretty well though. When I do that, I notice that my left shoulder rises and it feels like my spine tilts away from the target at and after impact. Does this mean there's something funky with my full swing? It seems strange to me that I can hold the flying wedge on chip shots, pitches, and now punch/knock down swings, but as soon as I do a full swing I lose the flying wedge. I took down the videos that are linked to in this post, but I will post new ones in a couple days of me holding my lag (getting a new camera tomorrow).

What are the reasons that I can do a partial swing and hold the lag, but lose it on every full swing. I can swing pretty hard on the knock down feeling swings and I'm sure that I'm still holding onto the lag.

One instructor that I spoke too suggested my grip on the club is too much in the palms of my hands. I have been gripping as per 5 lessons or at least I think I have been. I start by placing the club in my left hand. The butt end is placed at the base (below the first digit) of the pinky finger and the club lays across my fingers such that it "exits' my left hand across the second digit of my left index finger. I then wrap my hand around the club. I then place my right hand on the grip by laying the grip across the bottom digit of the four fingers. I then wrap my hand around and on top of the left hand. Does that sound ok? I interlock btw. Does that effect wrist hinge anyway?

Ok I just recorded a few chips in my basement....I have a very flat left wrist! That's good to know that I can do it on chips (it wasn't just in my head). On the last shot I did, I did what would have been a very hard chip and my left wrist actually supinated towards impact....now how to I put this into my full swing?!?!

Finish Swivel

Do you understand the finish swivel? Just a thought, but it looks like you have a little chicken-wing post impact. Sometimes the "intention" of doing something at a point in the swing can affect what happens earlier.

My 2 cents,

Robbo

Not so much finish swivel as the intial problem of never releasing the 4th accumulator. Agree on missing a proper finish swivel, but his lack of swivel is also stemming from never releasing #4. IMO this would be a big step towards stopping the flip.

I think your lower body is too far out ahead of yourself at impact. The only way to hit any of the back of the ball is to throw it away a little. That S&T address is fine i guess but you need to at least try to start turning on that left hip and getting your right shoulder more toward the ball. I think your trying to cheat a little to get your compression, by sliding.
