I'm a 9 hc now - was a 0-5 for many years (the young limber years).
My friends say I'd be a 20 hc if I couldn't putt & chip.
I can't seem to stop over swinging and letting my right elbow fly.
My pro can't seem to get me there.
Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Wolfdog

Its not the overswing thats killing you its the 90 degree angle your coming in on the downswing with a 46 degree driver!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Wolfdog,

It's not the length of your swing; it's the geometry of your swing. When you start the downswing, you get the club in a tough spot to deliver it straight into the back of the ball.

When you say your pro can't get you there, what does that mean? What kind of things have you guys tried? He might not be saying anything different than I would.

History Lesson.

Take a few days off.

Find a football field with hash marks.

Get your clubs.

Line your self down the middle of the hash marks.

Take your standard golf grip and...stance.

Hold the club well above the ground getting ready and set to throw.

Throw each club down the middle of the hash marks.

100 in a row.

Virtuoso,
From my lesson notes:
- Keep shoulders level on backswing - right should feels lower
- Don’t come over the top with shoulders - take right shoulder to ball
- Keep shaft real flat
- Don’t overswing
- Keep left arm connected to body on downswing
By then end of each lesson I'm hitting the ball better but it isn't changing much on video. I can hit good looking draws with some power but it's the same swing only tweaked a bit.
Thanks,
Scot

Agree. I am probably wrong but I think it is all about hand path. Rick's drill should cure that.

But good thing is those "orms are swinging".

Like chess, you got'ta get your moves right. Like replacing the left arm.

Here's how to prepare for it.

Place a stick 90 degrees to your left arm at address. At the cuff of your left shirt sleeve.

Make enough room to get passed it.

Square up and hit shots without touching the stick.

What your showing at address you have plenty of room to swing passed it.

PS Watch Never Hook Again 2.

You have a good backswing but just go to far and really cross the line, if I knew how to edit videos and post a still I would post where the top of your back swing should be. The problem is you get way across the line and dive at the ball with your upper body and get the club exxxxxxxttttreeeemely steep. Rick's drill will be a good one and you will have to keep your upper body back to be able to swing under the stick, your feel should be that your left shoulder does not go forward at all just up and back. I think if you shorten that backswing and learn to not thrust your upper body forward at the start of the swing you will be right back on track, good luck.

Rick -

I am assuming the ball is inside the stick too?

Erik

The stick and ball are inside the forward shoe.

For me the stick is about a yard above the ground and above the ball.

The target side of the ball is under the target side of the stick.

Replace the space the left arm occupied.

I am not an instructor, but try this thought. If you are in flexible, then how is it that you can get the club that far back and across the line.
To me it's obvious. You severely cup your left wrist and bend your left arm at the elbow. So flatten your wrist and make a backswing. No way will you get to that position.

Look at your video and stop the thing at 0.02 seconds. Then ensure your back swing never goes any further than that in future.

Such a simple fix for what many are making a complex problem.

I agree Burner and I work on that a lot. If I knew how to stop my swing at 0.02 every time believe me I'd do it. Believe it or not this video is one of my better swings. I actually struck it very good with a draw.

I don't mind the overswing to be honest; it's very difficult to get people to not overswing if they have been doing it forever. He just needs better sequencing.
