Baloney!

No sense having a full-time teacher—me—playing Valhalla from 7600, but I did it on Wednesday.

I shot 83, just as Romo did at Torrey Pines.

I hit it REALLY good. I can score better than that from back there, but it played 10 shots harder than Pebble last August.

I could go play a course like Seneca Park in Louisville, play from 7,000 yards, hit it exactly like I did a Valhalla and shoot 70.

But I'd be fooling myself.

The girls need to go back to the tips at least once a year and show us where they stand.

Period.

I can see what Brian is saying in terms of comparing apples to apples. However, where we are comparing men to women in an athletic competition, (unless massive amounts of steroids and growth hormones are being used by the women ... and who wants to see that?!) we don't have an apples to apples situation, and never will.
In my opinion, we don't need to compare how the women pro's compete against the men pro's, (except for maybe a fun exhibition) it's enough to measure them against their peers.

Exactly. Thats why it makes no sense to say women should play a man's length course to see how good they are. If you are going to think that way, then you might also see the LPGA tour as a sort of nationwide-like mini tour, where the ladies could one day graduate from to the pga tour.

agreed.

If Brian wished to compare himself to a Tour player...why wouldn't a LPGA player wish to compare to a PGA tour player, also? I think it is only human nature to want to know where you stand against the best.

I really think there is NO reason for this to happen. Us men have a huge advantage over women when it comes to certain sports. Apples to oranges...

Interesting this discussion has turned this way. Annika, arguably the greatest women's golfer ever, missed the cut by a stroke at the Colonnial. She picked a course where the length wouldn't kill her and her accuracy almost got her to the weekend.

Ochoa is pretty long, I think she would have a chance at making a cut at one of the men's tour events.

from what i gather, LPGA players use woods as their second shots very often. in fact leta lindley has 6 woods in her bag and her longest iron is a 6 iron. so they'd struggle with US open style rough. and of course them playing a monstrous 8000 yard course is crazy. they're just not long enough. i say make the greens like glass and that should be tough. from what i see, the fairways run for miles, the greens are very soft, and the rough is quite short, so they can get their hybrids at the ball ;)

This is something they are trying to coax her into doing...

Personally, I think its fine... every once in a while, but I don't think there will or should, ever be a full time woman on the PGA tour.

This means you Ms. Wie.... although with how bad Leadbetter has screwed her up... Im not sure we will ever have to worry about that.

Thats not a fair assessment of LPGA vs PGA tour players. You have to adjust for the strength advantage that a man has over a woman. Even the most out of shape players(i.e. Tim Herron) are still stronger physically than most(if not all) LPGA tour players. Comparing men and women in sports will never be apples to apples because of that. Saying that a woman should play a course from the tips is like saying that the PGA tour players would know what they've got if they played that crazy 8,000 yard course from the tips.

I agree with you thefuture37. There's no reason to try to compare the ladies to the men. What's the point? We all know that on average they hit it shorter and can't spin the ball as much. A putting competition between the men and women would be fair, but that's about it.

putting competition would be fairer. But men are generally regarded better putters on the tour.

It would be more interesting to compare the average woman Tour player with a men's club (amateur) golfer. The women play on courses no longer than the everyday tees (not the back tees) that amateurs basically earn their handicap from. In many cases , even shorter.

A men's 4 marker could qualify for the LPGA tour.

how often do you see the amateur lady golfer tee it off from one in front of the tips though...

No reason?

The is one really good reason to have the ladies play from the exact same tees/setup/course as a PGA Tour event—

Ratings!

Just like the MILLIONS that will watch next week when Romo, Timberlake, Lauer, and the am play Torrey.

Surely Ochoa would have had a good game with Romo.

Baloney!

I no longer watch the PGA tour... Maybe Sunday of a major, but nothing more. All of my tour professional golf viewing is focused on the LPGA. Having the ladies play the same courses and setups as men is silly. I want to see the ladies play quality golf, not struggle to score 75. I can't wait until they start playing more events in Korea and Japan!

Despite Pressel's 14th ranking in the Rolex world rankings, she sucks! I can't stand the crybaby. Ben Curtis also won a major! It means nothing. She cannot hang with anyone in the top 5.

I agree with Brian.

The LPGA and WNBA wish they had someone like Maria Sharapova that could wear a short skirt and play like that--and no, Gulbis winning one tournament doesn't count. And by the way, she's not that good looking.

You cant be serious...

Why?

I mean, I guess to each his own... I just don't see the allure that womens golf would have on a male... besides your kind of weird love obsession with Lorena...:p

side note....

Annika > Lorena, no joke.

That would get good ratings for one day but not any more. Some years the men's us open is so hard its almost not worth watching. Recovery shots are part of the game, but if the course is set up too hard they become irrelevant. How many tour players(men's tour) really think the US Open is the most complete test of golf? Most difficult maybe, most complete test of driving accuracy for sure, but of total game? No way. Golf is like life: you're not always perfect. Recovering gracefully is just as important. So you might get good ratings, but it still wouldn't be a good test of a women's game.

BTW its not like they are showing a full days worth of coverage of the amateurs at the open. That would be brutally boring...

Oh baby, I have to disagree.
