I always tell my students: "Your intent is more important than your execution."

But what intent?

What is the golfers intent on a normal shot?

Simple....Good swing motion for the shot at hand

To lag the clubhead into the inside aft quadrant of the ball with a flat left wrist and tilted axis.

hit the ball to the choosen target ?

To put a properly aligned clubface between an orbiting clubhead and the inside quadrant of the ball- impact /ball compression.

No DougT....The other answers: 6bee,Archie, Mathew are much more correct.

Trying to hit the ball at the target is what HACKERS do.

DougT,

This has been much debated before.. but the target is the ball.
I like to think of it as a primary target..the ball and a secondary target.. landing area because Homer in 3-B refers to target as where the ball goes.

Hit the inside back quadrant of the ball with a bent right wrist.Everything else follows suit...on plane lag, axis tilt.

my intention is to hit the shot I visualize, my feel is in my hands and feet, my focus is on the inside back corner of the ball and my goal is to maintain perfect balance and hold my finish until the ball stops

BTW, there is a school of thought out there that says: "Intention is not something you do, but rather something that already exists. You simply have to tap into it."

Swing the club toward the target and let the ball get in the way.

Would I be correct in saying that this is wrong because we are swinging or driving to the ball which is our target. If we align the machine correctly the ball will travel in said direction. In the same manner that the Iron Byron machine has no mind it just delivers the club to the ball.??????? Maybe I'm catching on Then again maybe not.[^]

Take out the roots...

Left hand replaces club face.......

Swing or drive pressure points in the hands downplane towards inside aft corner of the ball. Screw the actual target and screw the clubhead.

You are very capable of having perfect alignment to the target, and hitting the ball completely errant of your target with your intention be on hitting the ball.
