That is what I have been working on this summer with some success, but I still don't have it yet. To get to this position, don't you have to lay it off somewhere in the transition?

Or you can be more laid off/less ATL at the top. I think one move is better than two, but not everyone can play that way.

Yes it has to be in the transition. You don't want to lay it off too late in the downswing because that would be what underplane is all about.Think of it as reverse tumbling as you make the change of direction. This really is a world class move and very difficult because it is counterintuitive.Nick Faldo talked about how he performed this move in his first book "Golf,The Winning Formula".

Ben Hogan of course called it laying the club off and he taught it to John Schlee by holding his clubhead at the top of his backswing and pulled it straight down his back by about 6 inches. The feeling this produced was the right elbow dropping down and pointed down and the right palm facing the sky in what felt to be a ridiculously open position.

Note that performing this move does not necessarily lay the club off but it will certainly flatten an overly steep transition to be less steep.Going from a steep transition to laid off will not be done overnight and probably not recommended.

Brian,

Do you have a DTL slo mo of your swing you can post? I would like to see some of your movements from that angle.

I tried today to make the beginning of my downswing less steep. I couldn't do it. I managed to shallow it out a bit, but the clubface was way open and I would hit fat 9 iron slaps that went about 100 yards and were pushed a good 40 yards offline.

So I'd like to return to the original point of my thread.... how do I start over? I think my swing is too engrained to try to just change little pieces of it. There is obviously something fundamentally wrong so I think it would make the most sense to just go back to square one and start over. Maybe I can go lefty.

I think NHA would be where I would start over if I had your swing. I would guess that a pulled draw would be your predominant miss right now.

look at your last video and pause it at the beginning of the eighth second... I could be wrong but this seems like WAY too early for your right foot to be raised up like you're posing in the follow through, you aren't even close to parallel with the club yet...

Do you start hitting it good when you practice and then just keep trying to hit it farther than the one before or are you trying to hit all your irons to a similar distance. Just seems like there is too much effort going into hitting the ball as hard as possible and the system loses balance and then sacrifices the quality of the contact.

I have an extra gear but most holes I can score better if I don't use it. You don't have to be long with every club on every swing. If you have a problem saying you hit a 7 while everyone used a 9 when they ask "what'd you hit?" next time just answer them like I do and tell them "the green, cant you see it up there"

RIGHT ARM

Upper right arm is moving backward during takeaway. Arms separate too much and right upper arm rotates away from chest. This creates right elbow problems. Right elbow appears to be to far behind you when viewed DOL. You stall the pivot late in the downswing to athletically get the right elbow in front of the hip. I would try the classic drill of placing a headcover under right armpit. Just try not to have upper right arm slide backward. IMHO.

Best view to see this would be overhead view.
