Is "Rolling" the Left Arm Advised?

Something AZgolfer wrote resonated with me.

For the swivel the left thumb should no longer align with the left bicep. If this is true, it may be a big help to me in my finish.

Is this true?

Also, if true, on the back swing, should the right thumb no longer be aligned with the right bicep (a swivel of the right forearm in the backswing)?

This may be a significant insight for me. Hope it holds up to scrutiny . . .

Thank you.

Joe, thats the problem, seems very few can do it correctly, you guys probably golf with good golfers, i golf with regular working stiffs, and they cant hit 2 balls the same to save their life. I practice much more than them, and seems like one day i have it, next day i dont, its gets so frustrating, i am much more consistant not rolling, sorta like the square to square method.

I think I should have written the wrist bone, rather than the thumb. If you bend (or arch) your wrist, the thumb won't line up, either.

Most golfers need more roll. Impact and beyond is full tilt, an all out driving swinging force, forget where the thumbs are. They will be where they have to be in the end.

I disagree. The point of this is that the first "roll" is the left arm (flying wedge), to impact. The second "roll" is the forearm, after impact. The position of the wristbone (or left thumb) indicates whether the forearm has rolled.

Also, I believe in the backswing, there is just a slight turn of the forearm (clockwise rotation), at the top, is this correct ?

Homer said golfers would benefit from more roll of the hands. The hands turn right, and roll to the left.

cdog,

Believe me I know the type of swing you are talking about, because at one time I had one(actually many). Before worrying about Rolling, you and your buddies need to get the Big Three down - Lag, Flat left wrist, and Straight Plane Line. If you get those down solid, you will ALWAYS have it!

azgolfer, you nailed it on the head. You CAN use the forearms.. but it's preferable to have the whole arm stay in alignment with itself (no independent movement of the forearm) so that the entire assembly can return to the same alignment it started at.

oooooohhhh....Ringer...you used the TGM word "assembly" youre getting weak into the darkside or what? lol!:D
GAH!!! Help me Yoda!! er... wait.. :(
