THis weekend I have put in a lot of work on the range and I am so excited I just have to express how I feel. I have not posted many questions on here yet becuase John W. Rohan-Weaver has been helping me understand the book and concept, maybe some of you have heard of him, he also directed me to this site. by using the book and talking with john, My understanding of how to create lag, what truly produces power, clubhead speed, and being solid at impact, has just shot through the roof. I used to hit the ball 275-285 CARRY for about six months and for some reason my distance fell off the map, down to 245-255 carry. FOr the last 1 1/2 years I had been trying to figure out what happened. In two weeks with only understaning how the right arm works, how the left forearm rotates, and a better backswing position I have gotten back 20 solid yards lowered my ball flight, and have, on some shots, stopped flipping. The methods have also greatly improved my understanding of the short game and how to hit chips and pitches nice and crisp. I realize I have a lot of work ahead of me but I have hit some shots already that help me understand where I am headed, hopefully in a few months time with hard work. This tgm stuff is the real deal. before my swing fell apart a year and a half ago I had gotten down to a 5.5 index and that was before I learned how to putt and chip. Cant wait to see where I end up in six months

Shootin4par, what is the single most discovery that you believe reduced your tendency to flip?

Your enthusiasm for the game is refreshing! Keep up the hard work.

Way to go John!

I had a great time with John and his pal Jack when I went to work with them this summer in Orlando.

They said I earned my keep ;)

single most, tough to say but if I had to pick one, maybe the rotation of the left forearm. The keeps arm speed moving though the impact zone instead of trying to pull the but end of the club through. Dont kill me guys if that is wrong. You asked for the single most so I tried to answer your question that you asked. Now if you asked my what are all the factors that helped me to stop flipping< i would say a few. Here are the things that I have SOMEWHAT incorperated into me swing. Allow the right arm to stay bent and drive kind of like a piston through impact, realize the pressure points in the right hand, roatate the left wrist/forearm through impact, and also one more. For some reason If i let the thumb on my right hand be VERY LOOSE, it seems like it disconnects my right hand and I can go through the impact zone with just the pressure points instead of a unified hand that wants to flip. I actually got this feeling by practicing chip shots with my right thumb off the club and for some reason it works. ALso, I have slightly improved my backswing and that makes it fall into place easier.

Flipping always happens because of the right hand, but in two different ways. The right hand can actively go from bent to flat in a misguided effort to help the clubhead through impact. But more commonly, it's because of the right hand pulling back on the shaft because of running out of right arm due to not enough lateral hip slide and/or not enough downplane motion of the right shoulder. This pulling back on the shaft allows the clubhead to get too far ahead of the butt of the club. Loosening the right hand helps by partially "detaching" this chain(right arm) from the shaft. Singh and Couples are famous for this loose right hand attachment through impact.

If anything I have too much hip slide, I have tried to quiet this some because I actually go outside of my left/front foot. Mentally, by loosening the right thumb I push with the pressure points of the right hand instead of holding the club with the right hand, which leads me to more of a rotating/flipping/steering or just plain incorrect action of the right hand. I dont have it all figured out yet, not even close. but my good shots at the range, bassically one out of every six or seven, is better then ever because I have a much better ball flight.

If you are pushing with PP #1 and #3 using a thrusting right tricep, you are "effectively" Hitting, even if you are intending to Swing! Or maybe you mean that you sense lag pressure in the right hand when you say "push with the pressure points"? In other words, maybe you are mistaking "pushing" with the passive feel of lag pressure.
