Now that they've shown him close up...what do you think?

The announcers are stumped...not the first time...but they truly have nothing to say about why he hits it so far.

Looks like Ted Fort's pattern for the most part

I like the look of Ryan Palmer's motion - nice lag pressure there, needs stability.

Right forearm pickup

Extensor action

Downplane force

Isn't it amazing how we always gravitate to an analysis of whoever is hitting the farthest on tour? JD this week, Bubba last week. I do enjoy the analysis of the patterns, but I think we too often forget just how often these dudes hit it right in the MIDDLE of the clubface most of the time (and especially when they hit their longest drives).

So does Corey Pavin though....hell....with a half decent swing....how couldn't you hit the sweetspot on a 460cc driver.

Hitting it solid is important.....but compressing it is a whole different story. That's what we're all after.

"Good golf is power golf." -Homer Kelly

Lag lag lag....etc.

BTW....there a sequence out yet of Holmes?

MJ....what do you feel makes him a swinger?...just curious...because I only saw one swing of him on swingvision...and it was face on.....Just want to hear your take...Thanx

Corey Pavin - hmmmmmmmmm.......... One US Open Championship. Not bad for a guy that "might" be able to find the sweetspot with a 460 CC driver. I don't have all the stats in front of me, but it sure seems like it eventually comes down to who has the flat stick working.

Don't get me wrong, it is a power game these days, but I bet it still comes down to GIR's and putts per GIR.

I saw his tee shot on the 16th today and saw a horizontal hinge at follow through. He "looks" like a hitter no doubt, everything does but i saw the horizontal hinge in that follow through on the 16th tee.

That's the only tell tale sign i saw. I should've watched for a swivel to the plane.

His swing did not hold up down the stretch. Wasn't surprising as it looked like he needs his timing to be perfect. Closed clubface and drags the legs thru. If the legs don't move correctly it goes left. Tough under the gun. Liked his putting stroke though.

The same critique could be made of Trevino as well ;)

This was basically the pattern Ted showed me first at OCN.

Don Kerby witnessed my best use of this particular pattern. Terrible drive right had me in the 'ubber rough' about 190 out with a totally blind shot.

Stuck it to about 5 feet. Dead on line the entire way.

Wow, I see...

1. Some twistaway on both backswing and downswing
2. Mostly square shoulders at impact, but hips very open.
3. Great retention of the Spine Ange
4. Very vertical shaft at top
5. Right leg appears to be straight at the top of backswing
6. Right wrist looks as though there may be a little flip at the 3 o'clock position
7. Appears elbows get closer together to initiate downswing
8. Right shoulder is definitely lower than left at impact

And, I see some Popeye like forearms....

Guys over at LB think he's a bonified hitter. Looks like he has a huge plane shift from the backswing to the downstroke.
