Jackie Burke Jr. and TGM

I just picked up a new golf book by Jackie Burke Jr. "It's only a Game." I was not very familiar with his career or teaching before, but after a quick reading I see a number of similarities between his teaching and TGM.

1. Take the club back with the right shoulder.
2. Maintain the angle in the right wrist through impact.
3. Imagine the ball divided in 4 quarters with a nail stuck in the quadrant nearest your right foot. The golfer should aim to drive that nail through the ball with the club.
4. Hold the right shoulder back as long as possible.

However, this is much more than a golf instruction and he has observations on Hogan, Demeret, playing golf, competition, the Ryder Cup and other parts of the game as well.

Also read it, very good read
enjoyed his thoughts on putting----
1.) dont try to be so exact--see a paint brush wide (4") strip to the hole
2.) to phil Mick---go make a 100 in a row 3 footers and come on back.....

agreed on the Tgm similarities

I have met him and had lessons with him, what an experience, he is great in person. Hard nosed old school. Gotta love it.

The only info I have on Burke is second hand. Even the best have bad days. And sometimes flakey ego-maniacs have good ones.

I got the book two weeks ago and it was a good easy read. He sounds as though he prefers a Swinging procedure. Best advice in the book is for amatuers to try to die their putts in the cup. I have met Jackie and thought he was a perfect gentleman. While I was talking with him I knew that he was someone special.
