If You Have These Powers... Why are You Wasting Your Time on Golf.....

No I haven't, but if I tell myself that it is TOO HARD or that I CAN'T do it.. then I've already shot myself in the foot. So, I like to tell myself that it is easy or that I CAN do it. If I do those things..I think I or ANYONE for that matter has a much better shot at excelling in something if they are positive. My way of being positive is to not make such a big deal out of something, go work hard and just do it. I already know I'll be good at golf because I've already talked myself into it. It will work.... I'll be patient, work hard, trust my instructor and I'll be able to reach my goals..whatever I decide those goals will be. Right now I'm just having fun learning and putting good thoughts in my noggin.

Would You PLEASE Save the United States from the Impending Economic Collapse.... Thanks..... And Have a Great Day....:)

Vjsinger,

200 yard 5 iron your first day out..Wow! Did you really lean on it, or was if a soft fade? You must be very gifted. I look forward to hearing about your future successes in this easy game.

Hmm.. I detect sarcasm. It will please you to know that I went back to the range today and I hit lots of nice really high pull hooks..real beauties. Ill post those this weekend so you can get a chuckle. And by the way, I didn't say it was easy..I said I like to think it is easy..that helps me.

VJ,

200 yard 5-irons (on the fly) is pretty good stuff...... not sure Mr. Singh hits it much further than that!

I know (and play) with some guys who also hit it that far, but they're pretty seasoned players. What's most impressive to me is not the 200 yards, but the fact that you went from hitting cold "topped" shots to hitting it that far in the same session! It's the stuff of legends!

Well..Looked at it on video and it looks horrific to me. My footwork is awful..maybe I'm swinging too hard..okay I probably am. Went to the range today and hit awful big high pull hooks..Yuck. I think my lower body is too active on the backswing..I don't know. I'll post video this weekend..Thanks for the complements.

Leo you probably float loaded more/better and maybe swung more left.

I think there are certain people who are more suited to "striking the ball" than "swinging the club" or w/e.

Johnny Miller comes to mind. IMO, and from everything he has said about "freezing impact."

Gary Player looks like he does this too, I always thought.

With regards to vjsinger...

All I know is...who knows what any one person on any forum is doing vs. what they say they are doing.

No offense to vj or anyone else. Shoot- I could be the biggest hacker out there for all anyone in here knows.

I will say though that some of my hockey buddies can really hit it and always could hit it. A few of those guys are no bigger than me at 5'10, 160.

In what way?

VJ,

The only person in history that can say golf is easy and get away with it is Moe Norman.

It's very common for a beginner to have a good range session and walk away thinking like that.We all have had sessions where we demolished the ball.Doing it day in day out is the hard part.

Golf will have its revenge on you sooner rather than later.

You don't realise the precision needed to hit good golf shots repeatedly.

It just takes one little, imperceptible, seemingly insignificant detail in your swing to change and you can suddenly hit horrible shots....regardless of good instruction.

Now,you might be the next Moe Norman and I will have to eat my words!

Guys....For the last time,hopefully.... I never said golf was easy and Im sorry if I came across as being arrogant, ignorant,or brash. That was not my intention. Boy, have I learned to think about how I say something before I say it on here. Thanks to all who have helped me realize this. The point of this thread is to find what works for you and throw all the other garbage out of your head and try and keep it out. Thinking about keeping your head down, left arm straight...whatever. Whether you do those things or not is irrelevant. What is important however, is what works for you...what goes on between YOUR ears and how those thoughts translate to feel, translate to good golf.

Ej...Ive already hit my fair share of shanks, fats, tops, blocks, pulls, hooks, and slices. And, thats in one session and heck...even a lesson. I am just a guy in pursuit of figuring out what to put between my ears which translates to good feel, which translates to good golf........Just like everyone else on this forum.

Don't get me the wrong way.Not criticising you.

Just pointing out that everyone, not just you have experienced overconfidence after a positive range session but have gone back the next time dissapointed.I promise you it will happen again. The golf swing feels the same, the swing thoughts are the same but the swing may not be the same.

It's the day in day out quality of your bad shots that will determine how good a player you are,not the flushed ones.

Golf is way more fickle than other sports.Only the most patient of personalities will persist playing this game.

But it certainly does no harm having a positive attitude.

Wow, ain't that the truth?

How many times have you left the range or course thinking "Now I get it - this is SOOOOOOO EASY" only to return the next day or next week and find it has disappeared. It is the mystery of golf. At least now I have experienced it enough to know that the next day is a new day and things likely will not be exactly the same.
