Winning is always special in that such a small percentage of competitors get to experience it in golf. Congratulations Kevin! I'm sure you're ready for the next step.

Kevin,
I have been really working on playing tournaments better so that I can get to that winners circle and competition play seems to be a test of your ability to score. How did you know when you would arrive at the course and you already knew that even Par was the daily norm and when your putting well then under par was in sight ...

I seem to play well for one day then I have a blow up round. I havent seem to put the rounds togther back to back in events that the score is the only thing the know about you. Whats seems to be the best way to get better and learning to put back to back rounds together.

Subconciously I have the skill to shot low score and my self image is that I am a champion am golfer. But what is it that the good guys are doing at their club and club championships and all? I watch the PGA tour guys up close to learn ... I watch the good players at my club , I play events all over , I take lessons from Bmanz , I watch and read the site but how do you score ... You seem to be putting great rounds togther! So any insight would help

You said you have the skill subconciously. What do you actually shoot in competition? There are mental and physical things that work on the range, in a round, in a round for money, in competition, and then in serious competition so its quite a loaded question.

Lets start by examining your current game

I know what kills me in competition. I do not know how my driver will react from hole to hole much less day to day. Plus my wedge game from 50 to 110 yards...blows, very I consistent, but I am really good inside 30 yards and with mid and long irons.

Very olazabel like is how many describe my game. When I hit the driver well I play well when I have the dreaded underplane 2 way miss going, breaking 80 is tough.

Kevin,
Now I’m not at your level but I do play a bunch of AM events ...... in a two day event I average around 4 to 6 over par in a one day event I can shoot say 1 over... 4 day event I will be 10 over par... The best I have ever done in tournament was a two day event shot 2 under par... I think the things is I play all over the place compared to the guys that play at my local club but it just seems like I am not scoring as I do when its a Wednesday men’s league round....

I feel I strike it well enough ... sure I could hit it long but my distance is my distance ... I was chasing distance at one time and really messed my elbows and wrist up so much that I started to got to PT/OT for injuries so I cut that out.... I started so late in life but I am ultra competitive... So golf is really fun to me when i am playing in events stroke play events that you have to put up a score under the lights (so to speak) a test of my golfing ability...

You know though the thing is that I feel I should score better so I have started to ask the guys that put up the low scores at the club how and what their doing.... I have figured out that the strength of my game is my short game and my understanding of how to hit the ball with less curvature... But when i need power on the longer courses I get in trouble.... I should be playing to my strengths but as i think about it I am always wanting to be a power player in my mind but I'm not that .... I should be playing and working on my skill of hitting the ball where I'm looking... but that’s gets tough ... I have even been watching the LPGA trying to get a better understanding on how they do it and shoot low scores......

So right now in tournament play I’m about a legit 4 handicapper.... I need to get better at scoring... put on a day when i missing greens and my short game is off then I shoot 79-82 but if I am hitting on the greens and chipping and putting I shoot between 71-73.

Thanks to all for the advice.... Kevin I hope this helps you help me…. Thanks
