How about taking a break from talking about Tiger (and the rest of the PGA tour for a second) and pulling for our very own Kevin Shields? He's currently tied for 4th.

Go get 'em, Kevin!!!!

2nd round recap

I am currently tied for 9th place at Oakmont. Unfortunately I do not have one single birdie in my rounds of 74-73. Although I've hit 14 and 16 greens, my conservative strategy has left me with a number of 30 footers. However, I have had a number of good looks which I havent been able to convert. The most painful of which was my last two holes on both sides today. I drove 17 green (Tiger would've traded me:D) but three putted, then after striping 4 iron on 18(505yds!) to 8 feet I missed it. On my back side 8 was playing 255yds and I hit 3 wood to 9 feet and didnt catch a whiff and had another great chance on 9.

I'll be grinding tomorrow after a veeeeeery productive session with Manzella at the Big O this afternoon.

If you keep hitting it like you did at Lake Presidential this weekend, I think you will do just fine! You just need to believe in your talent. Best of luck on Wednesday.

Hey Kevin..What are the greens running at the beast? Play well.

11.5 at least,i would say. Since Oakmont has the fastest daily greens in the country.

WOW I did not know they were playing at Oakmont, I am MORE pumped now!!

GO GETEM KEVIN!

Yep--have seen him hit the ball a number of times, including a PGA Tour event (84 Lumber Classic) a few years ago. Has one of those swings where other people on the range stop to watch him. Very well-respected player ( and now, teacher) here in western PA.

Good luck Kevin, enjoy your time away from teaching!

What kind of tournament is this? I couldn't tell if this is an amateur or club pro tourney. Also, what kind of yardage are you guys playing at Oakmont? How are them greens? Are they as difficult as they are portrayed? You always hear stories about how the members at Oakmont take such pride in there brutal greens. When you’re finished with the tournament how about a presser about the course?

Since I dont get to play that often i cant really complain about 74-73-75 at Oakmont. Rain softened the course a little but made it very long. Brian and I worked yesterday and I'm looking forward to implementing what we did for future events.

For the person who asked, it was the PA State Open. Pros, amateurs, mini tour players all played. Man, the young amateurs are getting good. But wait till the old grooves come back:eek:
