Kevin:

Excellent job in the tournament. Tough playing against players that are playing in weekly events, but you did well. Hopefully, playing the 6 holes with me didn't throw your game off that much.

Man, the young amateurs are getting good.

A 16 year-old playing in a AJGA tourney from the tips on my course just set our course record, shooting a smooth 62. On a course that a lot of D1 college golfers, including some now on the PGA Tour, have been playing tourneys on for several years.

A long Oakmont. Whew, I can only imagine....

Since I dont get to play that often i cant really complain about 74-73-75 at Oakmont. Rain softened the course a little but made it very long. Brian and I worked yesterday and I'm looking forward to implementing what we did for future events.

For the person who asked, it was the PA State Open. Pros, amateurs, mini tour players all played. Man, the young amateurs are getting good. But wait till the old grooves come back:eek:

Just read in the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette that the average score in the first round was 80! And the list of talent in this tourney was incredible.

It truly boggles my mind when I think of how good tour players must be. Here's Kevin who, although I've never seen him play, must obviously be extremely talented and proficient to shoot +9 over 3 round on a world class 6900 yd layout. Interestingly, another player who finished with the same +9 score was Jarred Texter. 2 weeks ago, I followed Jarred's group during final round of the Lancaster County (PA) Open where he shot 67 then lost in a playoff. He had all the shots - hit it a mile, good short game, putted great, etc. And while I was watching him, I'm thinking holy crap, just HOW do you get THAT good? I left feeling bewildered. It's just so beyond my hacking 82 on the same course from the white tees.

And then there's the Tour level. As I type this, there's several guys at -3 playing 7 f*ing 600 yard Hazeltine. WTF? I think I become immune to appreciating just how great these guys are watching them rain lasers on the flag week and week out. But every now and then (this would be the now part), I get to thinking about it and using Jarred (and Kevin) as reference points, it's just astounding. How these guys can control their bodies and minds to do what they do, I'm in awe.
