What's you guys' thoughts on the direction the left elbow points at impact?

I've seen lots of variation in this depending on the player. Some have left elbow pointing almost towards the target, others have the upper arm more externally rotated with the elbow pointing more towards the body.

What do you think the implications of different upper lead arm rotations are?

It's anatomy.
Elbow joint (opposite to the knee joint) can rotate only when the arm is straight A bent arm in elbow can rotate roughly 180 degrees with a fixed point of the elbow due to the forearm rotation; a straight arm in elbow can rotate almost 300 degrees (thus, the elbow joint alone can "add" more than 90 degrees). Observe Sadlowski at impact, his bent lead arm and where his elbow joint points.
However, a relation between rate of rotation between elbow and wrist joints is also important.

Cheers
